Ubuntu 11.04 Review - Linux Distro Reviews

A rather in depth review of Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 1. Sporting the new Unity Interface, Ubuntu is now bringing something unique to the buffet of distros out there. Overall, bugs are present as it's only a beta, but definitely shows promise as the new UI and bundled apps create a cohesive user experience that's logical and easy to pick up and use. Excellent execution on the part of the Ubuntu devs, they've been working incredibly hard, and their work truly shows.

I have a HP Mini 110 Netbook i have tried Ubuntu already and it really works fine, what i just want to know is if i can be able to run ardour and hydrogen drums to use my netbook as a mini studio for recording purposes? (i'm not a pro, just want to know).

Awesome and informative videos. Im pretty new to the linux world and have learned a lot from you. I've recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my Laptop. The sound is not working for me. I'm searching all over for any help on either drivers, terminal instructions or any other additional download needed to make it work. Any idea on how to fix??? I have a Nvidia Geforce GT 540m.

@phyriz007 Have you tried Wine? It is a program that runs .exe's(windows programs) on Linux. Its fairly easy to find i think its one of the suggested downloads.

@InfinitelyGalactic I just upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 and I still am unable to connect to any WPA 2 wifi network... Is there any way I could fix this? I checked different forums about that issue but I wasn't able to fix the problem... What can you suggest?

will the version of ubuntu run stuff like games and other windows aplications / software. loved unbuntu 10 but it wasn't any good for what I have to do and I couldn't play any of my games on it..

hey, i was wondering if u cud help me :) i got windows 7 as primary OS, and i got the 32bit Ubuntu installed via wubi. i was wondering if it is possible to install ANOTHER linux os, and if so how and which one? i aint a very good person at partitioning and what not :')

I have 10.10 and i have been reluctant to update, People have been complaining about Unity. and i kinda don't like it. it takes to much space. Now is there a way to remove it to go back to a classic like the (Applications, Places, system bar at the top?

my xp crashed in my old pc, can i just download Ubuntu and put it on a disk, install and be back up and going good? will it partiction (sorry cant spell) and work all on its own? ty for any reply

okay um im gonna dual boot my computer and wanna know why is ubuntu good? i know it doesnt have viruses and its free but id like to know why people use it and what are they using it for is it programming if yes tell me more :P im new to this and i love new tech (even though ubuntu isnt cuz it wasnt released yesterday :P) that i discover (on my own) so yh any free tips for the new guy??

11.04 with a zen kernel is the fastest and most appealing ubuntu os.

Do you happen to know why they made 11.10 have a dark theme instead of the light grey?

I have 13.04, and it's awesome, Unity's really matured since 11.04, however it still has the problem of requiring a lot of resources, meanwhile GNOME Shell, KDE, MATE, Cinnamon, and Xfce all use less resources than Unity.

In addition, MATE is operationally and visually identical to GNOME 2, and you can make Xfce look like GNOME 2 with enough work as well.

As for Cinnamon and KDE, they have more of a Windows-like look and feel to 'em.

I am a rookie in ubuntu. I have tried it for a week. I think this version is not that user friendly. The Start menu is missing. I don't want to type an application name in search box every time I need to start a program. It is quite annoying. Besides, I can't find any ways to download themes in select themes screen easily. Where is it?
Can I open two file manager at the same time? It is too difficult to use.

i consider to buy a laptop that comes with that operating system and i have option to add 120$ for windows 7 or stay with Ubuntu 11.04 for free
