why the hate on ubuntu vs kubuntu its basically ubuntu with a different desktop enviroment on top. you could litterally install kde on ubuntu and have kde. or any other DE or window manager.

Note when installing Kubuntu 24.04 - fell into that trap once.
Make sure you have Internet connected and update during install. Do not... do not install without Internet connection. The apt repos end up missing and it is a major pain to get it fixed - actually easier to just start over and ensure you have internet enabled.

I am an ex-Windows user. I was using Windows 7 and 8 and changed to Linux 2 years ago and have been using ever since. I have used Gnome and while you can get a Windows style start menu with Arc menu. I would not introduce it to new users coming over from Windows trying Linux for the first time. For a new user I think the Cinnamon or Mate desktop is a better one to start with. Both are Gnome based but have the traditional layout that Windows users are used to with the taskbar and start menu. KDE is also a very good option as it has many ways to customise. I have got Debian 12 which has KDE and I love it. It's the same version as Kubuntu but I don't care as I like Plasma 5.27. I don't think Plasma 6 is stable yet which is why Kubuntu is still using 5.27.

Great video but one small correction....standard Ubuntu (gnome) has 5 years of support but the flavors (Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc) have 3.

Is that TILING part available in plasma 6 too? I've been using Krohnkite on mine- (plasma 6) and it's working ok... but will occassionally open a screen incorrectly... overall- it's been good.

I currently use Windows, but I want to switch to Linux because Windows 11 is not meeting my needs (shit). Please recommend a Linux OS that is fast and looks good? I primarily do coding and browsing, not gaming. My laptop has a GPU, so I'd like to use it to its full potential.
