In this video, we discuss the reasons why rain water is or is not safe for drinking.
1. Contaminants.
As much as rain water may be safe to drink, it can be easily contaminated with metals and other chemicals during the collection process.
Rain water collected in barrels is also not safe for drinking because these barrels do not have a disinfectant system or filtration system.
2. Bacteria and viruses.
It could also get contaminated with parasites, bacteria such as E.Coli that could cause serious digestive issues and viruses especially in highly polluted areas and this could be a health hazard when drunk.
3. Metals and other roofing material.
Some material that are used in roofing and gutters such as asbestos, copper and lead could cause serious health complications when ingested.
Asbestos roofing material has been linked to cancer known as asbestos cancer or mesothelioma that affects the lining of the lungs.

We are using rain water for drinking as long as 8/9 years. For that, we clean our tarrese 3/4 times before collecting water. We have 7ftX7ftX6ft deep underground water tank bellow store room, which made of concrit and double cement plaster, is totally air and light proof with submersible pump to lift water. We collect the water of 3rd round-rain spell, around 15 August and use water for whole year.We are in Cambay-Gujarat-India.

things to be concerned about, bacteria, contaminants and acidity. The first 2 are treatable with boiling and filtration. I'm not super concerned about the acidity because we drink acidic things every day.

my RO system is 4 ppm , i re-roofed 6 mos. ago new gutters and leaf covers. many hard rains since, i collected 5 gallons last week 2 ppm. the municipal water is 448 ppm . i think the answer is pretty darn easy, also their is the ionization from the sky and nitrogen bonding . these i know little about but it is natural, cleaning dirty municipal water and well water are not as natural, well water has many non-organized minerals. they are not absorbed . i have tested many different well water samples. some over 400ppm. ask any plumber, the inside of old pipes are usually loaded with white crap. these are non- organized minerals calcium, magnesium lime etc .

This is so stupid, those who are wondering about this question are all asking if you can drink water falling straight out of the sky and say into your mouth and not have stomachache. If you're talking about storing and collecting rainwater pouring down your roof then it's no different than asking can you drink the water from your garden hose after you aim it at your roof and have it come down the drain first.
