How to wire a spur socket to ring circuit. Add a spur socket to ring main.

In this video I show how to wire a spur socket to a ring final circuit using 2 methods, 1. By using a junction box and connecting into the ring circuit cable. 2. By connecting into the back of an existing socket. I explain the ring final circuit wiring, the spur wiring and cable protection / overloading using some basic diagrams and I give a practical demo showing how to physically carry out the wiring.

After watching about 20+ other videos on this subject, I can say yours was the best and simplest to understand. perfect.

As a qualified sparks, this has been explained in a fantastic way. This has a how to, and more importantly, why you shouldn’t explained. I also love the use of the Wago 222 blocks. Use these all the time now as they’re 18th approved. Well done on a brilliant video sir.

Best video on adding spurs on Youtube - from beginning to end with explanations, circuit drawings, and then practical examples. Brilliant. Subscribed.

I understand spurring off etc, but why not just add it into the existing ring? You've already got access from A (incoming) into B (socket), so why branch off B when you can just go A to C (new socket) to B and ignore the spur or fused junction entirely.

Love the jingle, it's irritating but catchy and that what makes it good in a weird way.

When connecting a Spur, it's good practice to fold over in half 20mm of the wires at the end to give you twice as much copper to clamp the terminal into.

If the socket already has 3 wires connected then it will already have a spur coming from it and if the socket only as 1 lot of wire in the back then it is probably already a spur so not a good idea to had another spur to this

In the kitchen, I have a standard double gang socket for kettle and toaster. The airing cupboard in the hallway on the other side of the kitchen wall, I have a washing machine. I would like to take power from the socket in kitchen, drill hole through wall into airing cupboard and wire a spur socket from the one in kitchen for the washing machine in airing cupboard. So basically, 1 washing machine on a single gang spur, kettle and toaster in kitchen from socket that is feeding the spur. Would this be ok please?? Thanks

Very helpful video. Have had circuits tested and and all is good. Just a few places I can't physically get to visually ensure that things will remain safe over time. Old building creaky floor boards and general moving and shaking from the rocking and rolling that occurs in my studio. Would plugging high amp appliances into RCD adapters increase the overall safety? I know they are acting on front end of socket so wouldn't necessarily help with an over loaded cable deep in an old wall but as often music sessions go on for longer than realised there is many times that high amp appliances are in use for many Hours simultaneously. Could plug in RCD's be an extra layer of protection if I were to correctly add in more sockets to ring main. As opposed to extension leads plugged into extension leads is not ideal but at least a problem would most likely be easily noticed or would trip an extension with built in RCD. Excuse the poor question more of practical person. Writing doesn't come easily. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance

Do you ever double up your cable ends when inserting one cable into terminals, eg light switches? Come across some people do and some don’t so wanted to know what you do. Thanks

This is a great video. Very well explained without using too much technical jargon. Keep up the good work!

will a 30A junction box be suitable instead of a 32A? B&Q sseems to prefer 30A. Thanks
