I have an integrated amplifier that shuts down the left channel after about twenty minutes of playing. I switched the interconnect from left to right and from right to left from my DAC to amplifier. The left channel shuts down again after about twenty minutes. I then switched the speaker cables from left to right and from right to left. The speaker connected to the left channel shuts down. Also, when I power off the amplifier I hear a thumping noise. I have checked and made sure all my connections were secure. This amplifier has been sent in twice for inspection and both times nothing was found wrong with it. I am dumbfounded. Its seems to me that there is something wrong with the amplifier, but the repair service told me the amplifier checked out twice with nothing wrong. Thanks for videos like this. You always provide great advice for those of us who enjoy this hobby. I need help figuring this out.

Excellent session! Very useful, Mike. I had done the same process of elimination to isolate the problem with my preamp. This is a great ready reckoner

There are no small or big tubes. The 275 monoblock has 7 “small” tubes and 4 “big” ones.
Only the most uncomplicated design has of two pairs of tubes.
Besides, the most basic amplifier got only “small” tubes (el84 with driver tubes).
On tube amps, we have a driver and output tubes.
Mikey knows that, but the end-user who calls those “small” and “big” tubes probably does not exist. They usually know the topology of tube amplifiers with driver, rectifier, and output tubes.
It's a nice troubleshooting video for most basic stuff, though.

Thanks, great video. I am getting an occasional scratchyness in one channel, but not full dropout. Swapped connectors between pre amp and mononlock amps, and the scratchyness moved to other side. So amps must be good. The pre amp has tubes. So mostly likely a tube going bad in the pre amp, or maybe a bad volume relay in the pre amp? Thanks!

We are all getting a free Master's Degree in Audiology from The University Of Mikey! 🎓
Just beware my dude, the Youtube competition is coming!
A famous audio gear channel with a MegaRig is now doing livestreams with call ins from viewers (must have camera on - no anonymity!)
