#73 - Recoveries - Fixing Veneer Bubbles and Related Topics

Let me be the first to admit that doing 12 veneered panels of varying sizes in my shop is kinda no fun. Takes all the available space between bags, work tables, "veneer flattening areas", and places to aerate the finished panels until they finish curing. Plus at night when I'd think, "oh, time to go make another panel", I had flashbacks of the movie "Groundhog Day" only without the fun of ice carving.

All the burl panels came out great; only one has a bubble on it so we'll go repair it and talk about a couple other related topics including an experiment I did with some of the remaining scrap veneer to see how fine a gap you can get away with during a glue-up.

I've scraped and sanded all but this last panel now so we can move on to looking at the drawer webbing and back column.

Hope the weather in your area is starting to feel more like shop weather!

I bet that the blackened left pinky right there brings you some painful memories… great job explaining the process, thank you!

I would have first tried heating and moisterizing the veneer and the glue on the panel by putting a wet clothe on the surface and applying a hot iron on it, and then press til it dries. This works with the glue I use, but I don't know if it works with yours.

Hello,
My parents have recently done interior work in their apartment, the interior guy has charged an exorbitant amount but the veneer is bloated up in certain places.
What could be the probable cause?
Bad veneer material, bad wood or the glu?

Would you use spray contact adhesive to glue a walnut veneer top? Thanks for the video.

Paul, I was not going to mention the pink spatula at all, but listen, next time please paint the other 9 finger nails black, you were throwing off my attention with just one. Or I guess you could smash the other 9 finger nails with a hammer so they will match, lol.

Great vid by the way...

Euh not to be a smart ass but wouldn't the steel needle on the injector discolor the hide glu?
