The Rehabilitation Services Department at Moffitt Cancer Center presents this instructional video to help you learn the necessary motions and procedures for a full recovery following hip surgery. After hip surgery, your body requires careful movement to support healing and prevent damage to surgical repairs.

Discover the correct way to move and avoid harmful motions that could compromise your hip surgery recovery.

This instructional video highlights three fundamental movements to avoid post-hip surgery:

▪️Avoid Crossing the Surgical Leg: Learn why it's crucial not to cross your surgery leg past the middle of your body, whether standing, sitting, or lying down. Using pillows between your knees while lying down can help maintain proper leg positioning.
▪️Prevent Hip Flexion Beyond 90 Degrees: Understand the importance of maintaining a proper L-shape (90-degree angle) with your hip and avoiding a V-shape (excessive bending). Maintaining good posture and using elevated surfaces like a high toilet can assist in this.
▪️Keep the Surgical Leg from Turning Inward: Learn how to prevent the surgical leg's inward rotation to avoid strain and maintain proper alignment during movements.

Discover helpful tips for daily living aids, such as long-handled reachers or sock aids, which can assist in reaching items and maintaining independence during recovery. Your occupational and physical therapists are valuable resources to address any concerns related to your recovery journey.

Following these guidelines and techniques can promote a smoother and more successful recovery process after hip surgery. Empower yourself with the knowledge to navigate daily activities safely and effectively during this healing period.

Why are none of the questions posted answered? That speaks very poorly of the Moffit Cancer Center.

My understanding is that you do not want to let the foot on your surgical leg turn inward if you have the posterior method, but if you have the anterior method, you do not want to let the foot on your surgical leg turn outward. Please clarify.

Total hip replacement could be avoided with neuro therapy and ayurvedic treatment .
I have bilateral Avascular necrosis in my hip of 2nd stage and I have lot of relief from the treatment.

I REALLY wish they would use people who actually have had hip replacement so it would show the realistic outcomes of posture and stride, etc.
I hate this fake crap.
