South American carrier LATAM has a passenger fleet of nearly 300 aircraft. Including its dedicated freighters, the airline group narrowly surpasses this number. Made up of airline subsidiaries based in multiple South American countries, this group consists of a diverse mix of narrowbodies and widebodies, with the former coming from Airbus and the latter from Boeing.

In today’s video, let’s look at the fleet of LATAM Airlines group.

UPDATE/Clarification: While LATAM operates in Colombia, the "LATAM Colombia" fleet is currently operated by LATAM Chile.

I like how the merged name of LAN and TAM also works as an abbreviation of Latin America, in the same vein as Pan Am.

@ 3.47 Not the first Preighter. I flew Joburg-Luanda-around the bulge of Africa to Brussels in about 1972 in a Sabena 707. Front half cargo with a walkway down the port side and a hanging curtain between there and a cattle class cabin. At a guess maybe 30 down the back.

B**** HAVE I FLOWN LATAM!! my whole life, and it's always cheaper to fly to and from Brazil with them other than any other major global airline. The service is far from world class but it's always delivered with a big smile. I'm quite heartbroken with the A350s leaving because it's one of the best aircraft I"ve even flown, in that case with Qatar Airways to Malé

Now only Azul will operate the Sovereign A350 in South America.

I flew with Latam Airlines which provided the absolute worst in flight service of any international airline I have flown with, & I have flown with quite a few. The staff didn't even return after the meal to collect the trays & rubbish. Most people eventually threw the rubbish on the floor which made it hard to exit the flight after over 15 hours onboard.

It's interesting, because I've only flown LATAM on domestic flights in Colombia, even though they don't actually have aircraft registered there. They operate almost like a low cost carrier in Colombia so their service is nothing special.

Denying the existence of Latam Colombia (being the second passenger airline in the country by numbers) made me lose faith on this channel

Just a heads up, Colombia does have its passenger division. It was previously known as Aires Colombia, and in 2010, LAN acquired 98% of the total shares of Aires, which became LAN Colombia and then LATAM COLOMBIA. It operates as a single airline in Colombia and is the second airline, by number of passengers, in Colombia.

The A350 was a perfect plane for a Brazil with a big middle-class population with a strong currency. Right now the 787 seems like a good fit and I've heard that they decided to keep the 777 because the lease was really cheap.
I feel like Chapter 11 really made Latam set the house in order, because before the pandemic it was not really clear what the strategy was. A low cost airline? A mainline one? It has always felt in and out of itself.
I think that Delta partnership is really helping Latam become a good airline company. The same thing happened when Delta had a say in Gol.

Having flown in LAN first, I can tell that the quality of services and cabin droped sharply after merging with TAM.
Local low cost airlines can easily provide similar service at much lower fares.

I've heard so many disappointing news regarding their quality. TAM and LAN were perfect separately.

We live in Cuenca, Ecuador (CUE) and routinely fly LATAM throughout South America. For European flights, we prefer Iberia, and for North American flights, we prefer American Airlines. Not a ding against LATAM, it’s just LATAM long haul international isn’t convenient out of Ecuador, as it requires connecting in Santiago or Lima. Service and cabin product on LATAM are outstanding- very professional and friendly. Sort of what it was like in the USA in the 80’s.

You have missed another IMPORTANT part of the airline group: the Paraguayan flag carrier LATAM Paraguay with the IATA code "PZ" and ICAO code "LAP".
After the dictatorship the state airline "Líneas Aéreas Paraguyas" (LAP) was privatized as "Líneas Aéreas Paraguayas Sociedad Anónima" (LAPSA). Shortly after the Brazilian "TAM Linhas Aéreas" bought 80% of the shares and rebranded the airline as TAM "Transporte Aéreo Mercosur". In 2008 the branding was unified with the Brazilian owner, though the corporate structure still remains distinct and separate.
All flights out of the Asunción (ASU/SGAS) hub are marketed as PZ with a JJ code-share and operated by JJ.

The history of PZ/LAP would merit a separate video.

It Would be very interesting to fly on CC-BDC as being a wide body and have just 13 seats!! But the rest will be cargo

There is a LATAM Boeing 767-300ER currently stored at an airport near my house. There are also at least 7 ex-Singapore Airlines Boeing 777s and a rare Boeing 747-300 from Corsair that are stored there.

Why some of the major airlines in the world still maintain the 767s? (especially western companies). We already have the 787s and 330neo families. No point on keeping the 767s for passengers use. The same goes for the 330-200.

Im sure Latam has a passenger division because I made a review flying between MDE-BOG.
