Emirates says “NO” to Airbus A350! What’s WRONG?

After the Paris Air Show in June 2023, Airbus emerged as the winner, securing 830 out of 1100 orders from carriers. However, the situation reversed at the Dubai Air Show in November, where Boeing secured 295 aircraft orders, three times more than Airbus's 86. Notably, Airbus struggled with orders for the A350, especially the largest variant, the A350-1000. Even Emirates Airlines, known for preferring larger aircraft, ordered only the smaller A350-900 variant, purchasing 15 units. Ethiopian Airlines and EgyptAir also chose the A350-900, ordering 11 and 10 units respectively. So, what went wrong with the A350-1000?

The title is misleading, as it suggest all A350 models, but you only talk about issues with the A350-1000. variant.

Any attempt to say that airbus is in trouble vs Boeing currently it’s just a joke!

Emirates only hates the Rolls Royce XWB-97 turbofan engines on the Airbus a350. They do not hate the Airbus a350 airframe.

I sas only yesterday a Video about Qantas prefering the A350~1000 over the 777X because of its maximal Range and fuel economy. So I don’t think Airbus has a problem.

For the 787, the GEnx being the preferred engine has outsold the RR Trent 1000 engine by a margin of three to one to date.
The RR engine had serious durability issues on the 787.

Emirates behaving like divas again. Remember the time when they made many demands on the Airbus A380? They cancelled some orders and that forced Airbus to end production. Now they probably regret their actions and kept asking Airbus for a new A380Neo! Fortunately, Airbus has a decent order book of orders for the A350 and it will not suffer the same fate as the A380. As for Emirates, they can wait for the B777-9 to be delivered.

First your title is misleading

Second your videos transcript is almost stolen from another channel

Third
Your analogy that Emirates didnt order the A35x because of engine choice is lacking, because ordering the 777 means ordering a new engine
So Emirates is still dealing with 2 different engines for 2 airplane types

Nothing wrong with A35K, far eastern airlines ordered many of this variant: Japan Airline, Starlux, Eva air which is going to replace its aging B777-300ERs by A350-1000. None of them ordered any B777X which is more suitable for extremely high volume routes.

BTW, When will the B777X be delivered to its customers, 2026 or 2027? It is un-proven for both the airframe and GE engines.

So basically emirates is just selfish and picky 😂

The A350-1000 is a payload/range match with the 777-8. How many orders for the 777-8 are there? 43 total. 215 for the -1000.

Like so many aircraft channels/avgeeks you`ve fallen into the trap that is one airlines or at least the president of that airlines opinion on the A350-1000. While I agree with many people that Sir Tim is a legend in the industry he does say things which can stir things up a little. His criticism at Dubai of the durability of the T-XWB-97 was not warranted. The aircraft engine manufacturers are under pressure to produce evermore economical engines while at the same time making them just as reliable & durable. This is very difficult & costly to achieve, but in fact RR have done it with T-XWB. This is backed-up by some very decent orders recently from airlines that have been operating B777-300ER`s namely KLM, JAL, Korean, EVA, Ethiopian & Delta. There will be many more to come because this airframe wether it be -900 or -1000 is a proven & known quantity. Qatar, Cathay, BA, Virgin, French-Bee have been using -1000 successfully for sometime hence the more recent orders. Emirates not ordering -1000 will not deminish it`s booming order book.

Emirates has ordered 65 A350-900s.. to help replace the A380 along side the 777. Their first aircraft is built, and doesn’t have engines yet but-
Emirates was always gonna go with the 777X aswell, as the A380 can only seat 400 something. And the extra capacity is needed to help replace it.

Edit the title to state “A350-1000”. Without the “-1000”, the title is misleading.
