I´ve done this for years, my quads are big and my back is fine. Never had any injury from this exercise.

To everyone asking yes, its a different version of a hack squat. Works same exact muscles. But you can do it similar to a normal squat bc the Smith machine won't let you fall backwards

Its close enough to a hack squat, look at the muscles being used. This guy is fun to watch and very enthusiastic . He looks fine to me. Keep up the good work bro, forget about the haters.

Yes, it is on a fixed ROM. Yes, it should not replace a regular Barbell Squat. Is it effective? ANYTHING THAT CAUSES HYPERTROPHY IS EFFECTIVE NO MATTER IF IT IS PICKING YOUR FAT CAT OR DOG OR MOTHER OFF THE COUCH

a coach at my gym just showed me how to do this and it changed my life instantly. It felt way better but naturally i thought i was going to fall backwards. How come literally everybody at the gym does it the other way without their feet in front onf them.

So many haters on here. This isnt supposed to be used instead of a back/front squat but rather used in conjunction with the squat. helps activate a different part of the quad, namely the outer sweep.

This is a tough one. The stoppers are MANDATORY, since your feet are so far forward. I find that this exercise really nails your glutes, more so than pretty much all other methods, so I really recommend it. But be very careful and use good form and lighter weight.

I tried these for the first time today. I have say that they feel awkward, but the feeling is great.

Forever put into my leg workout right after my normal squats...

I have severe back problems and just started with the smith hack machine.I was considering training with my feet extended beyond my hips, but now know what never to do. Actually, glad to see the comments! Thanks

You won't hurt yourself if you're not a dumbass! Check your ego at the door and put on a low enough weight so that you can control your movement. I've done this exercise a hundred times because I don't have a hack squat machine in my gym. It's a good alternative. The 90-degree angle gives your vastus medialis and vastus lateralis a hell of a workout.

Just recently left my rudimentary home gym set up to get access to cable stack, smith machine in a gym. No hack squat machine 😢 so, I MacGyver-ed this not realizing it's a "thing" 😂
62 y.o. woman with some stupid, ego induced issues (torn hip labrum, gluteal nerve damage L5 and S1) from 30 yrs ago.
This is a great way to get to my quads and improve femoral glide in the affected hip.
I left the gym feeling better than when I walked in.
At this pt, it's about functionality, joint sparing, and composition- which it shouldda been the whole time!

I use smith machines for squats also. It's not my primary tool of choice for legs but I use I to get extra deep in the squats without having to have a back arch. Good machine if u ask me.
