As someone who has battled OCD most of my life, which at some points was debilitating, I can say the first real help I saw was when I began taking fish oil. Later, I began taking nutritional yeast at your advising for other reasons and noticed that it did in fact, help the OCD. I also started taking Benfotiamine for neuropathy. I have also cut my sugar intake drastically. Now, the OCD is almost an afterthought. I still have some issues driving, but it's nothing like it used to be. Thank you, Sir!

OCD starts with anxiety over something trivial. Then leads to over thinking which feeds itself. Meditation and relaxing the mind helps.

I’m glad Dr Berg that you have started to discuss relationship of food with psychiatric disorders. It’s a much needed conversation

The one thing I have to say is that I can't be for sure certain of what really helped me manage the intrusive thoughts and images better, but in the process of trying to get better, I did many things; I tried the Keto diet, didn't work for me, I went vegetarian, it seemed to help me a little, I went vegan, my digestion got better, and then I seemed to have more control when having the intrusive thoughts, I started exercising more from time to time, and I also started therapy.

Today, I eat a vegan diet full of fats like avocado and nuts but also tons of starchy carbs. And this diet is more similar to what I grew up eating in Para', Brazil, where I was born. A diet that is low in gluten and processed food (I try) but rich in healthy fats, plant protein, fruits and veggies. Besides that, I take NAC supplements regularly (and also B12 because of the vegan diet), and the frequency of the intrusive thoughts has decreased soo much that I actually feel like I live the best time of my life! And when I do have intrusive thoughts, the therapy helps me to remember to know that it's okay, I'll be okay, I've been there before, and I survived. It also helps me remember to not try to push away the thought. Instead, I try to feel the uncomfortable feeling produced by that thought all through! I know it is not easy to "let" those thoughts "hang around" in the mind instead of trying to fix or push them away, but this is legit the thing that actually seems to make sense and help when those bad thoughts come to mind. They come to mind, make me feel bad, so instead of trying to avoid it, I try to let myself feel bad, I try to understand that my mind is trying to make sure that such bad thoughts won't become a reality, but there's no such thing as 100% certainty. As bad and frightening as an idea or thought can be, we will never know 100% that a lousy thought won't become a reality. And I feel like accepting that is the only way to manage living with OCD or intrusive thoughts.

It is tough to live with uncertainty, but that may be the only way. The only thing we can do is "feel the bad feeling" and tell ourselves I can only TRY to be RIGHT NOW who I want to be and live for my values.

I just wanted to share this with anyone struggling; I really hope it helps.

Thank you again, Dr. Berg! This is the first time I have ever heard a doctor give information about OCD cures rather than prescriptions for it. So thankful for your channel and for you.

Benfotiamine heavily neutralized my OCD. I might have gone insane if it wasn't for it. Thank you.

I have clinically diagnosed OCD & decided a long time ago that drugs were not the way to go. I have managed it via diet & conditioning control - very hard but I have very strong resolve

Why this is so true is trauma/complex PTSD from childhood events affects our gut(through brain to gut nerve signaling). Now the unhealthy gut is unable to signal back to the brain with proper chemicals which can affect other parts of the brains leading to OCD an issue trying to deal with triggers of the traumas (mainly thoughts that get triggered by an external stimulant in the environment related to the unhealed traumas from past based on my personal experience) as long as the gut is fixed OCD will remain less as the brain gets much needed chemicals. If gut remains healthy for many years, even the traumas may be healed without any other treatment.

This is a great vid for people that want non rx relief.I just want to say I've been on Lexapro first starting out in my late 20s and now 56 i've been on Venlafaxin for approx 10 years and I haven't gone above 175mg.I decided to live my life being normal rather than constantly fighting the helacious doom and gloom and obsessive thoughts.I guess I'm lucky to not have side effects.

Just remember OCD is not someone who likes to be super organized and tidies up after themselves.

For the last 3 months I've been adjusting my diet to try to improve OCD, physical and mental fatigue. I tried ordering benfotamine (B1) but did not notice any changes. My energy levels seemed to decrease on the keto diet (eggs + vegetables), but later it turned out I had iron deficiency anemia. I am currently eating a lot of red meat to absorb heme-iron, without too much focus on carbohydrates. There are some days when I wake up feeling really good, and others where I wake up feeling poisoned, so I am still trying to narrow down to see if I have a specific oxalate/lectin intolerance with the vegetables I am eating. But I feel a strong correlation with eating red meat and feeling better, and I can almost start to imagine having full days where I can work the entire day continuously while feeling good.

I have had OCD since I was a kid and didn't know anything about the condition. I was always able to function but I had some severe issues in my early 20s and then again early 40s. Once I learned about the condition and read about the symptoms, I was able to cope with it much better. I thought I was the only one who had these issues but once I discovered that the symptoms are common across others with OCD, it made it much easier to handle it. I can't say I am 100% cured but it doesn't affect my life like it used to.

1) Organic acid test to see where you stand on neurotransmitters, mold, sibo and mitochondria
2) probably a good stool test like Mosaic DX to uncover the culprits behind the dysbiosis as this has been shown to aggregate or ecen cause OCD through molecular mimicking
3) probably a wide array of check up regarding viruses like CMV, EBV, HSV the same molecular mimicking applies here too.
If you do 1-3 you will probably find the cause behind your OCD.
4) your best friends: everything that can close the gut and help reduce inflammation as OCD is considered a low grade inflammation in the brain, probably due to molecular mimicking, thus resulting in low serotonin signalling.

This happened to my mother who was a decades-long imbiber of antidepressants (Zoloft, Paxil, etc. right up until her death at 79). She lost the ability to speak clearly - very slurry, and this was a very chatty and articulate woman.
