If it was for protection from invasion that doesn’t seem to make sense long term. An invader could easily dig counter shafts and break into the chambers. The builders would have known that from their own tunneling. Maybe they wanted to be underground because it’s relatively temperature stable versus conditions topside?

My thoughts is that about 12, 000 ish years ago there was three civilization two which had advanced technology, one that was a result of a fight between the other two. In Turkey is where modern civilization came to be. However the other two civilization was lost completely to us. They had technology on par and in some areas advanced even to ours now. These other two civilization are where many of our myths and legends come from, as they did not share the knowledge with others.

Maybe it was more recent than anyone is speculating, with no artifacts, glyphs or written messages what is the basis for the dates given, often I think these mysterious sites don't fit into our history because we are given a bunch of bs about these places to keep some knowledge from us
