i think the biggest issue with junk/fast food is convenience. they are more often chosen because there was no preparation, refrigeration, or cook time involved as opposed to most whole foods. the only whole food options in most cafeteria, work, food deserts etc are apples, bananas, oranges that don’t require prep or are somewhat shelf stable. the average person shouldn’t have many risks when eating junk food in moderation but i do agree it’s a matter of volume along with variety or tradition

It also makes marketing easier. If you single out one ingredient as “harmful” (I.e high fructose corn syrup) it’s easy for companies to advertise not using said ingredient, and have the product seen as “healthier.” Pepsi is carbonated sugar water regardless if the sugar is cane sugar or corn syrup yet the former is thought to be healthier as it doesn’t have the evil ingredient.

I love when people say that Enriched Flour/ Fortified Flour is evil because they think that the fortification process adds chemicals to it. All it does is add back all the nutrients that were lost during the milling process to prevent things like rickets

Main reason why I hardly ever eat fast food: I don't feel full, I actually feel hungry after eating fast food.

I love how even being a doctor he's speaking from a common sense point of view instead of being too technical.

I salute to his ability of simplifying it in such a good way.

We need Nutritional Snacks that taste as good as junk food (e.g chips, crackers, fries)

"This particular ice cream is flavoured with *obscure flavouring component* that was found to promote cancerous growths in rats!" ("Forgetting" to mention that exposing the rats to said substance a billion times more than is found in the ice cream, plus never talking about the sugar content)

the reality is we have the most access to hyper palatable food ever in history while also being at our lowest in terms of physical activity. we're eating more and moving less

Peter Attia's general advice is pretty great: Stick to foods that don't come in packaging, and you'll probably be OK.

It's not perfect advice, of course, and there will always be exceptions, but if applied judiciously, it can be a great basis to maintaining a healthy diet.

When it comes to most food and drinks, moderation is key, even overdoing water can make you end up overhydrated and loosing electrolyte balance, although its rare, but its happened to me twice, I've also been underhydrated sometimes, especially in sumer... take care people.

That's very basic, but the vegetable oils and additives are what really makes them awful

Exactly. I haven’t been dieting persay but I’ve been trying to keep better track of what goes in my body, while exercising more, and I’ve definitely seen lots of improvement to how I feel and my weight just by understanding “is what I’m eating satisfying, and is it filling?”

there are specific ingredients that are actually a problem (or could be) regardless of the fact that the products make you eat more. It's not superfluous. The _worse_ problem might be simply that they make you eat more, but if stuff was actually healthy, simply "eating more" suddenly isn't the biggest problem.

Both are factors. But I do agree that the fact it’s too easy to eat a lot of junk food is the main issue and it’s overlooked.

I agree! I grew up in the 1960's/1970's, so less "junk food" On weekend/Holidays, once in awhile we had some. Ice cream was usually a treat, to look forward to. Then 3-4 brands, now 20!

In nature the tasty foods are the ones which are high in nutrition, but now we are able to make the taste separately in a lab and add it to the foods which are not so healthy

That's why when we consume processed food our body thinks it's eating something nutritious but the nutrition never comes so we end up consuming a lot

IMO we can just take those taste makers and add it to healthy foods ourselves so they are both healthy and tasty

Wait until some random guy on twitter sees this and sues you for 'misinformation' 😂

Growing is better than all of this but yes my grandparents were used to dinner having canned or fresh supplies and the water 💦 is always better than soda

I think both points are entirely valid.
