R/O is great stuff but it also messes with your pH. I was using R/O water for almost 6 months until one day I decided I was going to check the pH in the tank. along with the ammonias and GH. When I measured the pH, I soon discovered the pH was way to acidic. By adding backing soda to my water slowly and gradually over a few days (about a week+) I was able to stabilize my pH to 7.0 - 7.2! So if one decides to use R/O water, it is wise to check your pH level. Your fish will thank you for it! As for me, I quit using R/0 and went strictly city water. I no longer need baking soda or pH up as the city water source is stable at 7.0.

When I test my tap water, the only problem shown is the hardness and total alkalinity. When I use the conditioner, the water tests unsafe? Is it possible that I dont need the conditioner with my tap water? Would the RO filter be a better fit?
TIA for your help.

Loved This Video! I was wondering if you could use well water for an aquarium. If so, what precaution would I have to take?

I have well water. Well water does not have chlorine in it but it may have nitrates. If I ever desperately need to, is there any way I can use my hermit crab drinking water conditioner to condition the water and make it safe for the fish?
