These days bottled water is everywhere, but does that man you should be drinking it? McKay Jenkins, author of the new book "ContamiNation: My Quest to Survive in a Toxic World," thinks you are probably better off drinking straight from the tap. Here's why the cheaper option might be better for your health in the long term.

I’m sitting next to the sink, determining whether I should drink out of my tap

Simple trick: take your tap water, run it through a filter to remove any impurities, then put that tap water in a bottle or plastic jug with a lid, shake the bottle for about 1 minute, then place the bottle in the fridge and remove the tap (freezer works just fine.) Chloride and flouride are gases in room temperature, and at temperatures lower then what water freezes at, so the shaking introduces energy which allows for the water and chemical treatment to un-bond long enough for the gas to escape, and if you keep the bottle in the fridge you allow for the chemical to remain a gas while the water is chilled. This is by no means a system of removal for all of the chemical, but you get a noticeably better tasting glass of water. Also, you don't need the filter, but it helps.

Wish they would make up their mind! Some say tap water is hazardous, others say its fine. So why does my tap water here in Los Angeles, CA smell like mosquito repellent?

The thing I don’t like about water bottles is that the plastic that goes to the environment and damages it over time. Even with recycling, not everything gets recycled.

What he says about drinking out of plastic bottles being bad may be true, but drinking soda pop out of plastic bottles is even worse, and there are more of those drinkers. Plus, many microwave foods get cooked in a plastic tray, which again, is even worse because it's heated plastic. Many foods and most drinks come in plastic, so it isn't just bottled water being a problem there. So if he's using that argument not to drink bottled water, he could be using the same argument not to be eating or drinking anything that comes in plastic but it's probably not realistic in today's world.

Unless there's a problem with the water in your municipality (e.g. Flint), then there's nothing wrong with tap water. Most of the people in the US are blessed to have some of the best water available. I wouldn't trust anything in a bottle, since you never know the source. And frankly, I think people are making too much noise over the quality of tap water, especially here in the US.

I tested tap water against bottled with flowers and the tap water made the flowers last 10 days more, my latest upload though shows that tap water although better than bottled is still dangerous

WTF? This highly depends on the region where you live, also idk about the US but in my country the bottled water is either from an actual mineral spring or a normal one and the tap water is an absolute shit.

I am 60 and can't recall ever buying bottled water. I have had it given to me on occasion, but the idea of spending money on water just seems absurd to me. Even at large events where there is no water fountain, I will search out a public restroom and slurp from the sink.

In India, people drink water from river, canals, tube-well or those who lives in cities they used to have a pump and pull out water from the underground & drink .

I drink water straight from the tap... Put my head under the sink and drink it like I would from a water fountain. Tastes so much better than any bottled water I've ever had, and even if bottled water was free I'd always take the tap water. My town was rated 3rd best water in the country in 2008, and even in other places I am fine. Kids at my school refuse to drink from the fountain, but really why? They drink from plastic water bottles instead. I don't get it.

I used to despise water in general but as I gotten older Ive learned to really love water. My routine for tapwater is to fill two glassbottles that I let sit over night for proper room temperature. Im not sure why that tastes better to me but it just does. I prefer the water to be cool but not cold. That seems like a lot of overthinking for just plain water but when you find a routine you like for something it just really adds to the experience.

The plastic that contains the water is a problem? So I Imagine all the oxidized old pipes that tap water has to go miles through just to reach your home is deadly then right?
