Obviously the decade that put quality ahead of profit and bonus, this would explain why so many cars I see are repaired and refinished poorly. My point was why bother to blend out when there is an edge that can be soft masked and the blow in could have been kept to a minimum, not like it was much more of an area to prep, mind you I only served my apprenticeship with VW/Audi and have painted for 25 years so what would I know . . .

@golddang

thanks buddy, I bake pretty well all of my jobs in the booth at 160 for 20 minutes or so. The odd time I use the infrared lamp on smaller jobs but don't usually make mention of it.

I've got one for ya. I have a straight black Camaro, and somebody broke in to it and left the fiberglass above the lock crushed-in. I fixed the crushed in part with some body filler, then roughly sanded it, then used about 1500 grit to smooth it out. I painted/clear coated it with intentions of doing another clear coat the next day. While I had the materials in my garage, someone came up and sprayed clear coat over my door/window. It looks runny, splotchy, and terrible. What should I do?

I've never heard that term before, I'd think it would describe a situation where clear wasn't blended at all but just taking a shot in the dark.

Is blend reducer a special kind of reducer, or is it just the same reducer that you use to blend in your clear?
If it is a special type og reducer, do you know if House Of Kolor makes a blend reducer for their clear then? :-)

You nailed it! So many commenters seem to believe EVERY repair should be treated as if it is a Bugatti Veyron... Good luck making a profit doing that.

I paint custom airplanes and when we do a blend it will always have a blend line because there is no gaps like a fender to door gap to just panel paint your clear...so just imagine clearing half a door and puting blender around your clear edges to burn in the old clear...just curious if you have any tips on making your blend line easier to buff?
