Born: January 12, 1986
Sergeant First Class (SFC) Christopher Celiz, a member of the 1st Battalion of 75th Ranger Regiment, died July 12, 2018 of wounds suffered as a result of enemy small-arms fire in eastern Afghanistan’s Paktiya province.
When ambushed by a large enemy force in Afghanistan,
Christopher and his team were pinned down. He exposed himself to heavy enemy gunfire in order to retrieve a heavy weapon system nearby and laid suppressive fire that allowed the team to counter and move the wounded. He exposed himself multiple times without regard for his own safety in order to get his wounded team medevaced.
Christopher deployed from 2008 to 2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and from 2011 to 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was on his fifth deployment with the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, when he was killed. He was 32.
