how to handle barbarians: set the game as 'no barbarian' mode

Funny story, I was playing a domination game as Alexander, and when it came time to invade Japan, I came upon lands that had been completely pillaged. My guess is Hojo had a bit of a barbarian problem at the start of the game and just never recovered.

In my head canon, the Japanese welcomed my army as liberators. I unseated their incompetent ruler, eliminated the barbarian threat, and rebuilt the Japanese countryside to get their local economies up and running. Getting invaded by Macedon was probably the best thing that happened to them since the beginning of history.

How to deal with barbarians:
1. Use Terrain to your advantage
2. Get outflanked by horse archers before anyone alive has discovered how to ride horses
3. While Dealing with the horse archers, get overwhlemed by 10+ warriors, slingers, and archers
4. Get unit locked in your capital until another civ declares war on you and takes your only city

I hope DLC adds a civ that lets you "play as the Barbarians" like Venice let you "play as a City State". Fight other civilizations without declaring war, "puppet" encampments, etc.

It's interesting how I get a barb scouting my city on turn 2, but it takes 15 to get to their encampment, because it's that damn far away!

Does the game have a feature where you secretly fund the barbarians while claiming to fight them?

we real need late game barbarians: like bandits (medieval/renaissance), cartels(modern/atomic), and terrorists(information).

Every new world is a game of raging barbarians because they spawn very dense, spawn attacking units impossibly fast when their scouts return with your city location, and as soon as you destroy one, another barbarian camp will immediately spawn in the next few turns around you. On some maps they literally spawn in the same turn as you destroy another. It's impossible to counter other than build up a huge army of at least 5 basic units right away, forgoing any city development. It's either that or no barbarians. I wish there would be a middle option there.

Civ 5 barbarians: Oh look a barbarian. *kills the barbarian with one military unit*
Civ 6 barbarians: Oh look a barbarian warrior... wait where the fuck did that barbarian archer, spearman and horseman came form?! *10 military units dead later* finally beat them. Too bad it took me 10 fuckin' units just to kill them.

You can't befriend them, you can't reason with them, you're going to have to fight them.

When you get 7 barbarian units around your city at turn 20 because 2 outposts spawned within 6 tiles of you at the start of the game. Exactly how are you supposed to counter this?

I turn Barbarians "off" on the options menu.  Dealt with.

Line of sight is one way to deal with them, They only spawn in the fog..so remove the fog around you until the camps can only spawn a good distance away from you.
If you suspect that the game is set to raging barbs early on...then 2 scouts and 3 slingers is the way to go.

I found this entire series very helpful - a tip somebody gave me that I'll pass along is that it is friendlier to say "In this video you'lll learn how to ..." instead of "we'll show you how to ....". It keeps the focus on the viewer.
