So as a Baby Boomer born in the early 50's this song has always held a special place in my heart but no more so than now hearing Don along with Home Free put a new spin on it and shoot me if you need to but I like it even more now than I did way back when. And young lady let me tell you, I lost it, same time and same place you did. The lyrics are powerful and moving and even when folks have a different interpretation of what they mean to them, I still believe, that real art, whether music or paintings or poetry, can have that effect and can therefore affect people in so many wonderful ways. Great reaction by the way. Keep up the great work.

Thank you for the heartfelt reaction to this Home Free rendition of "American Pie" Christi. It is amazing and brings back a very special memory for me every time I hear this song. I was in the U.S. Navy for a long time, and in 2003, I was on a 9 month deployment to the Pacific region. We pulled into Perth-Freemantle, Australia for 4 days. We go to a bar (go figure) in Freemantle with hundreds of U.S. Sailors and Australians, partying hard. The live band began playing "American Pie", and the entire bar, everyone, began singing. Everyone on every floor and every room of the bar. The band stopped singing, kept playing the music and just sat back and watched it unfold. Played the song twice because of the reaction. It was awesome, a piece of home for the Americans, and all of the Australians knew it, singing along with us at the top of their lungs. I will never forget that moment, and every time I hear this song, I think of how much fun we had that night and how happy we all were to share the moment. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you again for the reaction Christi, and most importantly, thank you Mr. McLean. Your creation is timeless, and brings joy to so many people! Peace everyone!

Coach *PLEASE* breakdown Home Free's version of Helplessly Hoping....it's the best vocal harmonies I've ever heard. Also for an Austin song, an original he wrote please listen & react to "If I met you now"....it's astonishing

Beautifully done. That Don McLean wanted to work with Home Free shows he has a great ear for vocals and understood what they could do with his song. Words hardly describe the luscious what some might call ear candy throughout this great version of an all time classic song.

This song made me cry sentimental tears even after 5 listens. It is such a piece of those years in which I grew up . It didn’t make me cry back in the day probably bcuz I was distracted by everything that was going on in the whole world . Thank you so much for sharing your impressions

This is a truly magical song . Not because when it is heard, peoples hearts and minds are instantly flooded with wistful and happy memories of their younger lives . Nor because when this song is heard in a group setting ( particularly a pub or club in my wayward case ), all types of people, friend and stranger alike will join in singing along together, enthusiastically loud . For 8-odd minutes everyone is a family . The absolute magic of this song is that the lyrics are sad and melancholy, yet the instant the first few bars are heard, people smile and become happy . Every individual has a list of personal songs that transport them individually to a joyful wonderland . This song lifts and takes everyone there . Truly magical .
