Hey approached them, to do a 50th anniversary tribute to his most iconic song - the song of my generation. When this was released I was in 6th grade at Everglades Elementary here in Miami, FL. IIt was originally released on Oct 24th, 1971, but Don and Home Free released their cover on Feb 3rd, 2021 which was the 62nd anniversary of that infamous plane crash and was 'the day the music died - Feb 3rd, 1959". Home Free has said it was such an honor that he picked them, and trusted them with his song. And they don't hide that when they talk about it....they know the significance in history of this song.

Fun fact: McLean invited both Home Free and Weird Al to the little ceremony when McLean received his Hollywood star. (Weird Al, for his parady of Bye Bye This Anakin Guy, for those who don't know.) Also, adam got quite light-headed from the length of beat boxing he did!

American Pie is a true masterpiece - the history & symbolism Don McLean put into the lyrics is astounding. I think the age in his voice only adds to the poignancy of the piece and Home Free's harmonies, singing & beatboxing are always on point. Thanks for playing this & your comments.

Don picked Home Free to do this for the 50th aniversary of the song.
And while I always love an Adam solo, tis is an 8 minute song. I'm sure Adam was happy just to be able to get a few deep breaths after this marathon

Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them.
"American Pie" pays tribute to the loss of 3 legends who died so young (Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & The Big Bopper). A lot of references in the song are made to many artists from the early days of music including Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Byrds & others.

Ya know Cole -- One of the most iconic things of this collaboration, Mr. McLean never re-cut "American Pie" although suggested a 1000x over, till this point asking HF to join him!!!! I can't imagine the awe & absolute honor these gents felt, huh!?! And boy did they ever do Don and this song justice!!!! Also, their is a "behind the scenes"/"vault" on the meet up and such. Think it was the one with the 1M sub plaque. Be Safe

Amen! This amazing song by Don McLean was done on its 50th Anniversary. It was phenomenal 50 years ago, and is still relevant in its a cappella remake. Well done, Don; well done, Home Free, and well done Cole! Loved this one.
