This is how I answer my wife when she asks, “Do you believe I’m fat?”

Must be a nightmare when his wife asks him if he wants a cup of tea

Jordan Peterson is a very insightful person who knows what you are saying without you actually saying the right words

Jordan Peterson is extremely philosophical while people just want to simplify the world and want from him a straight superficial answer

What he means is that most people who say they believe don't really believe, because they don't back it up with action. I suppose he wants to be separated from those kind of people, which means he believes in God more than a lot of "Christians".

To some this is him being avoidant. To me, he's the white Canadian version of my late economist philosophy loving dad, Dr. Morgan Job. My dad always told me people always want you to agree with them instead of admit how complex reality actually is. Thank you Dr JBP. I discovered you 2 weeks after my dad died and I don't actually care if it's mere coincidence or if his spirit introduced us. I think it is more HELPFUL for me to be grateful I still get to interact with an older male as well-read as you are (and he was) intellectually. Y'all would have had great conversations.

Here’s a better question Dr.Peterson,
Do you believe in the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ?

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen

I always assume people mean "Do you believe that everything in existence (including time) was created by an intelligent being?"

The better question to ask him, would be to say, do you believe that the universe had some sort of creator? Then you you can ask further questions to figure out if he believes in the God that Christians believe in.

Agreed. Thanks for articulating what i have experienced all my life.

One of the problems with the question is that it does not actually define god. In order for the question to have any frame of reference, one first has to define the terms of the subject: what is god?

Not only has any god, at any time, actually been shown to exist, no actual definition of any such god exists.

Therefore, without a proper definition of the subject, and without any evidence for the actual existence of the subject (despite 2000+ years of trying by the best minds religion has to offer), the question is essentially meaningless.

Until one can both prove the existence of the subject, and properly define it, the question has no meaning. It's like asking, "What color is three?" or "What is the sound of a mile?" Just because the questions follow grammatical rules does not mean they actually make any sense.

Peterson you saved my life honestly, with your lectures and learning from the knowledge I’ve overcome so many things. I’m afraid of a world without you

I know he's a deep thinker, and it's great that he deconstructs these questions in thoughtful ways, but he really should try giving a more straight forward answer to this question instead of dancing around it with verbose monologues.

Yes they do and they know how to answer simple questions without a verbal interpretive spasm.

id rather live a simple life than be unable to answer "do you believe in God?"

A master class act of evading the question. Yes, peterson correctly points out that the layman is incapable of articulating what they actually mean when they ask that question but that in and of itself doesnt prevent you (who knows better) to answer the question they really meant to ask if they knew how to articulate it. If im a doctor and a patient asks me a question about a disease in laymans term im not going to tell them i cant answer the question simply because they cant word it correctly. Its his job as a doctor to give the correct answer based on what the most common interpretation of the patients articulations mean.

Peterson doesn't have any problem with the notion of belief when he sharply criticizes atheists as lacking any moral values.

That’s because most people aren’t genuine/ sincere. Peterson isn’t avoiding the question, he’s assessing the covert subliminal behind the question. That’s why I love psychology and philosophy so much.

Yes or No will do just fine Mr Peterson.
