My Mother did the "Do you need help?" thing, too. I told her, "If I need it, I will ask for it."

I use a Wheelchair, and I hate it when people come up to me and ask if they can pray for my healing.

i recently made a friend, he is such a smart warm and positive person i dont see him in a chair at all! Until I realised how ignorant I was about his needs, when he told me he would need a carer to help him dress and undress each morning and night, and cant get money out of an ATM himself, I almost feel like crying for some reason. And then when we went to a cafe, the whole place was empty, so i said "where would you like to sit", he just laughed and said it is funny coz he is always in a chair. I was so embarrassed, but luckily he forgave my ignorance before I asked for it. I guess he got use to the ignorance on a daily i am improving though and now much more aware about his needs. BTW I do wish he has proper lights on his chair, at night i worry about him on the street. I mean he is confident with no lights, but i have no experience of travelling in a chair so just feel somehow it is unsafe with no lights for him.

I'm a Christian who has spineobifida and is wheelchair bound and I understand what other people mean when they say they are paying for me to walk, but being in a wheelchair has led me to have an amazing life.

I had a man tell me the other day why are you in a wheelchair you dont need it get up and walk. I then told him that I'm paralyzed, he then said Oh and did his best not to look at me the rest of the night

I agree. I also don’t like when people assume I can’t do something or they try to push me.

I enjoy this video because I can relate, some people ask or say the silliest things🤭

There has been no mention of: “you’re an inspiration” and the add-on, “most people would have given up.” Shopping, buying and putting a few bags of groceries in the car is inspirational.

One of my big ones is people being flabbergasted when I stand up from my chair - they get it shoved in their face that not all people who use wheelchairs are paralyzed. Or someone calling me a hypochondriac because she refuses to believe that I do in fact need a wheelchair, or have any chronic illnesses, just because I didn't when I was growing up.

I’ve only been using a wheelchair for about a year now and regularly for about 11 months. But so far my biggest pet peeve is the person who thinks it's ok to move my chair. That drives me bonkers. If you wouldn't push someone standing out of your way why on earth would you think pushing a wheelchair user out of the way is ok? I never even had that happen when I was wearing a brace as a kid. Guess what ”KAREN” I am grocery shopping too so no it's not ok to move me!

I've got to add just one more to your almost perfect list and that's people saying "SORRY". Mentally it drives me crazy! I reply by smiling and saying thank you, but I'm just lazy walking is overrated and offer them my spare wheelchair. Haha, most people get my joke and laugh. Then it goes to a Nonwheelchair related conversation.

I'm not offended when people asks questions of me. Being a people person, I enjoy interacting with them. Being an old guy, I probably don't get the usual questions that younger folks get. I can be grumpy and get away with it! My pet leave is people touching my wheelchair without permission to push me. I had someone try to push me when my feet were on the ground. It wasn't good!

Here's one that really exasperates me: some dope-head will simply assume that I'm a vet, and say "Thank you for your service!" Or it's "What branch of the service were you in? " And don't forget " When were you in Viet Nam?" People are so stupid!
