I usually agree with Greg but definitely not on this one. These calorie calculators are based on the average person. So for most people it WILL get them close-ish to where they need to be. After that, they simply need to step on the scale week by week and see if their weight is going up, down, or staying the same. These calculators just get you in the ballpark to keep you from dieting too hard or bulking too hard. Definitely won't be perfect but that is why you step on the scale week after week to figure out where your actual maintenance calories are. Greg you're a professional bodybuilder who is 8% bodyfat, almost 190lbs, and the first calculator STILL calculated you only 326 calories away from what you actually need lol. Despite the fact that you are a huge outlier, it still got you close. All you would need to do is monitor your weight to realize that it was a little off.... and then adjust.

Hey greg! Still following your low calorie dense diet for 2 weeks and lost 3% bodyfat! Need 4% more to get into the Army! Thank you for being such a great guy and gettinf straight to the point. Also, your cookbook is DEFINITELY worth the money!

It’s ok if they are inaccurate, as long you’re consistently inaccurate.

No need to overcomplicate things, Greg. Use the calculator as a starting point and if you're truly counting calories correctly and not getting the results you desire, adjust from there. Also, there are TDEE calculators that ask bf percentage to give a more realistic estimate.

When I lost 50lbs in 4 months a couple years ago it was probably too fast but I felt fine so I went with it. After 2 years of maintaining I've recently starting lifting weights for the first time (42yo) and it has been a really fun journey now that I've found this channel! I was happy just being skinny instead of skinny fat for the first time then I realized all I had to do to get fit was to try, so I'm out there doing it harder than last time! Keep up the great work my man.

Thanks Greg, another great video. When I started this journey not long ago I was very lost. Turned 27 and honestly I felt much older because of my habits. I was not obese but definitely had some weight. Been steadily loosing it. Keeping it simple is key. I feel like there is a lot of information out there and it should be an inspiration to everyone to keep pushing for a better tomorrow.

Now i know that calorie counting is very vague. But I have to say thanks to your videos, started rough counting making me more aware of what I am putting in my mouth, and upping my workouts has made me lose a good mount of my weight (1lb a week) better the anything i have tried before. and feeling stronger then ever!

so im kinda pro counting your calorie intake especially if you are new to being aware of what food has what calories.

This is something the internet needed. Someone who can truly tell you the real deal. You and Thomas Delauer are my favorites on youtube for real information.

19:23 yes I am very grateful for your advice Greg. Weighing every day makes more sense. I am re-installing my fitness pal too and already have a food log daily

Just started working a manual labor job, upped my calories a lot and my calorie tracker is usually off by about 1500 a day lol. Very unreliable with how active I am. Strongman training and concrete work Im maintaining 200lbs bodyweight with about 4k calories a day

Such a good video, I needed this! I am currently 5’ 6”, 165 pounds (10 pounds and I will be at a healthy weight!), and I calculated my activity as moderate, but I’m definitely at least active I see now… I average 13, 000 steps a day, including 2 brisk 30 minute walks a day (averaging 120-130bpm, sometimes can maintain in the 130-140 range). I started strength training 2 months ago, twice a week as well, one day of yoga.

I calculated I needed 2, 300 calories, but now I see I likely would need a few hundred more than that to maintain (still losing of course). Of course I also understand that calorie counting isn’t accurate, I started doing it, but just so I’m understanding the ballpark of what I’m consuming.
