Many people believe that if their fresh beef has turned brown, that means it has spoiled. In this video, Purdue University professor Brad Kim explains the science of meat color and why a color change doesn't mean meat has spoiled.

And the restaurant business they tell you if the smell doesn't make you throw up it's still good.

The nose is your best ally to know if something is still good or not... Nose is as important as your eye. It can view/detect thing in another spectrum of our reality.
Eyes are good at seeing light and nose is good at analysing the chemical composition of what's around you.

Thank you! I almost threw out three vacuum-sealed steaks because the first one was brown. Definitely leaving the next one to thaw in the fridge overnight to see if the brown goes away.

I believe that if you buy a pound of ground beef, turkey or what ever, and its like greyish on the inside right after you just got it means its still good but time is running out ( only if the expiration date is OK) and don, t forget to smell it.

i've always had this question because i rarely cook meat as soon as i buy it from the store and it's usually turning brown before i get around to cooking it. i find that by the time the meat turns brown, it does have a sticky texture and funky smell.

I bought three steaks yesterday in a plastic bag, I opened the bag today and it was not only darker and turning color but the fat areas had a greenish hue along with a definitive bad odor almost like what a garbage dumpster smells like. Can anyone explain how only a day old beef could spoil so quickly even when refrigerated and sealed?

All the grocery stores mix the old shit meat with the new and it only lasts about a day.. especially those "family packs" gotta divide and freeze immediately. Even Wegman's is guilty of this sinister spoiled meat practice. It's disgusting.
