I have skinnies and drag radials on my 2012 Mustang. and my traction is crap, , I may move the skinnies to the front and see if that helps

:-P lol

the biggest thing that will help with launching a solid axle car is optimizing Instant Center and Anti squat via the angle position of the control arms. The upper and lower control arms are not parallel to each other, but if you were to extend their horizontal lines forward through the car they will meet at an imaginary point. The distance where this point meets and the vertical position of where they meet determines your anti squat and instant center. That is way more important than the rebound and compression settings of the rear shocks. Front shocks, yes, due to a loose rebound allows you to transfer weight to the back on launch

Man, back in the 80s when I was a teenager, (I'm 50 now) Nascar was the only people talking about shock compression, they had just then started getting a hold on this technology, Now any one who has the cash and the desire can have it. Thanks Nascar, IndyCar, Back then we would use air shocks and tire pressure to get off the line Awesome.

I literally just talked to you about the drag radial on a manual car at Carlisle. My poor driveshaft haha Great informative video!

im super guilty of it too in my earlier days of stang racing. running a 5spd, basically a s/c gt40 (back in the day). Shock and awe would best describe my starting line fuck ups. car would either dead hook and try to bog or absolutely go up in a 3.30 60ft smoke show trying to keep from hitting the tree going by. drag radials weren't as common as they are now. M&h were usually more than enough to bust the input shaft during test and tune anytime. wasn't until a couple years ago when I got a decent running 98 cobra that I learned how important it was to practice and learn how to keep it just barley hazing the tires so it would stay in the power and not go up in smoke. that 32v taught me a lot and you could keep it in the zone pretty easy. on the street it you could just barley let them go where you only see those 1 direction black marks it would stay in the power and run damn good. now I've switched to a fast car with only 2 pedals to worry about. and hopefully about another 800hp over the cobra so its gonna be a whole new learning game. why I'm up at 1am watching suspension tuning videos. seems a lot of coyote and even older stang guys run the same way. john force burn out to blister and heat treat the tires to the core. line up and bring that mofo out like a small tire promod. launch at 5500 on the bottle. then instantly shut it down and try to hook, bog, clutch repeat. because once someone gaptizes you we all know there is only 1 excuse that will work if hard parts didn't break. shit ass track, bullshit prep wont hook, old slicks, and of course you have so much power that your 400hp wouldn't make it down the track someone just sent 2400 down on the bumper. I watch the super small 235 class, 8" wide class locally rip the bumpers off so that isn't the case. big tire cars are for that ocean city summer cruise anyway we all know that. Buddy with a sb 275 coupe is hooking 2200 and just ran a 4.70 with stage rev limiter going buck wild the whole track so we all know an x275 car will hook 3000hp if suspension is on point

Alex I took in consideration the modifications you mentioned and that was the first thing to my car was suspension. I personally felt that the upper control arm had the biggest improvement when accelerating off the line compare to the OEM, them I replaced LCA with relocation brackets. Modifications were done within a week of each other so I could feel the difference of the modification. My 60ft on the street has improve big time plus I mounted 305 35 19 NT05R. OMG

On low power vehicles, I totally agree with you. On high power vehicles, squat is good in my opinion because of the greater load transfer to the rear wheels. Sure you may "lose momentum", but It is a hell of a lot better than fighting for traction half way down the track.

Watched this before setting up my suspension and it’s absolutely correct. This is gospel.

Good info. Especially since I have a 12 Shelby and those same shocks. And running stiff wall bias.
I ran 3...and 9.. I'll give the settings you suggested a try.

Agree 100%.... I out run cars that have 100+ more HP than me. Without the proper suspension set-up, you're wasting your time. I've seen 12 sec cars pull wheelies. Makes for nice picture, but don't win races. Watch NHRA Pro Stock, see how many cars squat and pull wheelies. That class is all about set-up.

You need to do an informative video on drag radials vs bias plys, when to use what said tire for what specific setup for automatic or manual transmission.

Nice video, I learned a lot. I'm rebuilding my 70 mustang and I'm installing competition shocks that are 3 way adjustable, I'm going 50/50 to start. Thanks again
