InPresence 0062: Your Karmic Bank Account

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he initiates a discussion about karma as a follow-up to InPresence 0061: Resist Not Evil. He points out that the principle of karma implies a universe based upon cosmic justice. He also notes that the study of reincarnation cases does not support this view. However, the "past-life review" reported by near-death experiencers is consistent with the notion of karma. He then brings up the concept that acts of kindness toward our enemies is a rapid way to repay karmic debts.

Again, thank you for your words. With the politics of our country and other worrisome things happening in our world, I've at times allowed myself to operate despair and fear. Just the reminder to "love and wish your enemy well" gave me instant physical and emotional relief.

Each new day, I look forward to your videos. Before I go to work, I find your catalog + new material and they make my day start on the right foot. Every week I find another fascinating and mind challenging person/idea to research. Thinking Allowed! Didn't the Beatles end with their last true collaborative effort with "and in the end, the love you take is = to the love - you make. Dr. Mishlove, you are certainly putting some love out there for us to live and breathe and learn for ourselves from. Such great topics, presented with true gratitude- and then shared.

Since you referenced Jesus in the last video concerning his statement to turn the other cheek, remember he also says we should pray for our enemies and those who wish and do you harm and that doing acts of kindness is like heaping hot coals on their heads. When I think of that last part I begin to understand that doing acts of kindness to those who do you evil would make anyone receiving that feel very uncomfortable because they are not in alignment with the energy you are sending and that they may then occupy themselves with dealing with that fact.
I've tried it ( for little things) towards people and it stops them often in their tracks and in their confusion, they turn away from me.
I have not been able to do the same for Trump and that is our mutual loss, but sometimes I simply break down and ask God to help heal his wounds and can shed tears for the pain I believe he is in, knowing that no matter how much we don't agree he is part of our family, my family and I do wish for him to be healed.
It is easy to get mad at him and those around him, but feeling compassion and sending a quick prayer as well as staying away from the noise helps. He and his administration is a true spiritual challenge.
I will strive to do better.

Having come from pioneer and cowboy stock, I like to remember Will Rogers (I never met a man I didn't like...A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet.)
Also, in my journey from judgementalism to recovery (incomplete), I have recently found two practices to be of great personal help: The first is Atisha's heart meditation - inhale all the pain and suffering of the entire world, exhale healing loving-kindness to the whole of creation. The second is Moornah Nalamaku Simeona's (through Ihaleakala Hew Len) practice of Ho'oponopono - "Thank you; I love you; I'm sorry; Please forgive me."
The wounds of humanity makes me think of two other expressions: The story of the warm fuzzies and the cold pricklies and the hip woman who saved the land (it was inside the cover of some book on psychotherapy in the eighties). *and* the story of the planet with a skin disease in Chapter one ("The Wounded Mind") of Don Miguel Ruiz's _The Mastery of Love_.
Cheers, everyone. ..Gotta go walk the dogs>>>

I think it is imperative we resist evil. Not necessarily through violence but by speaking truth to power. The "by-stander/as-long-as doesn't-affect-me" mentality is unfortunately all too alive and thriving in North American culture....yet still in spite of risking harm to themselves we still still have heroic individuals who intervene on behalf of the vulnerable, our children and our animals. All I can say is thank god for these heroes, they remain a beacon of hope for all of us.

I came to the comments to affirm what you do Jeffrey... with all these incredible videos that give insight into the human condition... but looks like basically everyone else already has so... I suppose I'll add a small grain of sand to the heap and say that your contribution to the understanding of human consciousness has been and will continue to be incredible, regardless of scale. And by the way, impacting thousands of people the way you do is FAR beyond the average... it almost seems mundane and silly to talk about scale anyhow. It doesn't matter, really. One person impacted is enough to fill your karmic bank, and you've far exceeded that. Thank you for everything you do.

As I recall, Gurdjieff thought politicians are dead souls, repeating themselves endlessly, unable to change. Have you seen "The Ruling Class, " the 1972 British movie starring Peter O'Toole?

The word you left out of this in presence; number 62, was Grace. In Christian definition it is the unearned favor of God.

I prefer Grace over Karma, especially with my own imperfections. There is a karmic relationship. How do you get Grace you give it.

I may have mentioned it before... I read a book called the 7th Sense by Stu Buchanan. He writes about in his book, how he remote viewed four different people, one going to heaven, one going to hell, one believed in reincarnation, and the other believed in Oblivion.

Mr. Buchanan's takeaway was that he didn't want to go to hell most definitely and pretty much what one believed, each person received the fruits of their belief.

As far as beliefs go I prefer Grace over Karma. I still haven't been able to balance the Ledger to my betterment. I keep trying, I know if I want Grace, I must give Grace, however it is often unearned.

...As a side note if you Google 'rule number 62' you'll find the definition of: 'not to take yourself too seriously'.

Thanks again for your evocative in presence.

Just thinking negative thoughts towards entities creates a karmic debt.

Jeffrey Mishlove: In fact, I adore to watch your videos on youtube, if you have the health to, you could do a DVD course based on your experience, and proposing some exercise works, and even given some kind of certificate. Just an idea.

These things that seem to make no sense still somehow seem true. The longer I watch your videos, the less I know. But I think about them throughout the day. Thanks.
