InPresence 0108: Triggers

InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities.

Here he uses the stress management concept of "triggers" to illustrate how we can remind ourselves to engage in subtle shifts of consciousness toward a greater (or higher) awareness. He presents many illustrations of works of art from his own home that serve this trigger function for him. He points out that we should each develop our own triggers that have particular meaning for ourselves.

Something that many people do, I did, was to keep a picture of the family as the background on the computer at work. It provides a quick reminder that there is a purpose in putting up with the stress.

At last! I got to know about the famous New Thinking Allowed sculpture! Guessed that it was soapstone, but never would have imagined that it was from Zimbabwe--or that it would about family. I thought it was a Taoist symbol.

In the middle of a challenge it can, indeed, be helpful to remember who you really are. Dunno why I keep forgetting.

" A simple little thing like a deep breath..."
That sentence is a trigger for someone with a background in respiratory therapy.
Do everything within your ability to ensure that it is always a simple thing to do.

I had a really hard time with this. To me the word trigger has to do with triggering feelings of past abuse. I couldn't follow what you were saying ... feeling kept coming back. Sorry.

When I started my own business, I hung a dragon by my desk to represent my inner lizard aka my amygdala who jabbers in the background with DON'T DO IT, WATCH OUT, THIS IS A BAD IDEA, YOU'RE GOING TO END UP A BAG LADY UNDER A That way I have her in front of me to reassure and remind that it's all going to work out.

Thank you for this video. I really enjoyed it. It was much different than what I thought it was going to be... :-)

Throughout my life I've been doing a similar thing.
Some of my "triggers" are house plants, occasional cut flowers, items with my sacred symbols on them such as the world tree, hearts, roses, the pentacle, and others.
I have artwork, and small statuary of my power animals. I have some small statues of Buddha and Kwan Yin.
I also have artwork of nature, such as flowers, birds, trees, rivers, beautiful countryside landscapes. Crystals and stones are kept out, dotting my apartment with their energy and presence.

I'm presently thinking about printing up small pictures/artwork I find online of a few of my favorite ascended masters, framing them and hanging them on the wall near my altar.

Thank you for this beautiful message and reminder. I almost felt like you where on to lead one into meditation. Perhaps soon? 😀

These in presence always help me except I should be working instead of staring at yu. It was worth it today, as a great smile enjoyed my face too. Art 3 projects almost done. One I mostly just stare at, I've been working on a year. Mostly staring and thinking. I love it, I'm lucky but its perspective some may say I suck, idk? my art doesn't at least. Yards nice, natures home. Thanks again, I love your show is art to me. I might post a short vid carving this drum, actually 3. Geometry, crop circles too. That's my real love, crop circles. Nobody can lay claim, except for that one lying imposter in Italy last year. Lie, lyer. Oh Switzerland too, last week. Cover_up stinch still lingers. Am I stressing?

I question the use of "triggers" as a simile. Too many
guns and "gun violence" in American life, as we all know, but there's also too much violent terminology in the American vocabulary and too
much military imagery in American conversation (for example: in sports, where it's gone beyond the ridiculous to the obscene). It's all there in the language that we use.
