I've used both Chromecast with-GTV devices. The HD is cheaper, doesn't support 4K, and has fewer bells and whistles. It's good enough for most people. Those with home-theater setups will probably want the more expensive model.

Was a long LONG time user of multi generation Roku devices and TVs, including subscribing to YouTube TV, and had original Chromecast devices for casting. But switched immediately to the Chromecast with Google TV when it first came out and have never considered going back. Absolutely love it. Have only had to replace it once when I dropped the remote into water and simply couldn't find just the remote at a reasonable price. Haven't needed any mods or add-ons except just recently picked up the Stadia controller to play games directly on the dongle. Having the capability to cast on the same device as the streamer is the biggest draw for me. 2 HDMI ports, 1 for this and one for blu-ray. No more room for separate devices. Really love the single search and list for all streaming services. Remote features are great.

When it comes to NFL Peacock is the one with the buffers etc. Prime Video had zero issues for me.

It makes perfect business sense for Google to offer a device that's more in line with cheaper Firesticks and Roku devices.
Why all the negativity?
There's not that much 4K content available anyway, as pertains to the live streaming services, which this device APPEARS to be perfectly suited to stream.

I just wish Google Chromecast was more user friendly, had more free content to watch. Roku beats Chrome cast times far for me and I have both that's my opinion. Roku is so much more easier to hook up it finds your home wireless network instantly over Chromecast when setting up for the first time.
