Western nations are planning to impose severe sanctions on Russia, after it launched an invasion of Ukraine.

The measures are designed to cripple Russia's economy and force President Vladimir Putin to halt military action.

However, sanctions may also affect Western economies, and Russia has threatened to retaliate with measures of its own.

Basically, after listening to all these leaders go on with sanctioning, their message to Ukraine is "Good luck and Godspeed", am I wrong?

I'm from Russia and I support Ukraine and peace. We didn't ask our government to start it. We don't approve of it. And we're being arrested for any kinds of protests

I'm from Russia and I'm in shock. The old senile in his old age decided to play war games. And the EU and NATO so far can only wave their fingers and say "very bad, Russia, you can't do this, stop it." They impose and will continue to impose sanctions that will not affect the life of our government and the oligarchs in any way. These sanctions affect ordinary citizens who live below the poverty line even in peacetime. After all the sanctions that have been, we have raised taxes, the prices for products have grown strongly and are rising. Prices for everything. Reduced pensions. While the oligarchs continue to live as they lived at the expense of us. Our protests won't help either. They will be crushed with bullets and clubs, people are intimidated. Only external forces can save Ukraine and Russia from its rulers. Is it possible that no one will do anything but sanctions while Putin commits war crimes? I am not ready to die for the money and ambitions of the old grandfather, but I am ready to die in order to free my country from him.

To all people asking why other World leaders or Organisations like the UN or the NATO aren't doing anything:
They literally have to chose if they want to start the third world war with potentially many more victims or sacrifice a whole country. Both options are absolutely terrible tbh

North Korea has sanctions, and they are still doing what they do. Iran suffered sanctions and they are still doing what they're doing. Compared to them Russia is a power house that can definitely do what ever they want even with sanctions..

Prayers for the people of Ukraine, the general population of Russia, and prayers for a stop of agression so it does not continue ino other formely Soviet held countries. I agree with one here who previously in these comments urged people to remain positive in comments even as we deal with hard realities.

Ukraine: Save us from attack, we need help.
US, UK, EU: Don't worry we are raising strict sanctions.
Russia: LMAO

He’s so right, sanctions are not a magic wand, but 1 things Ive noticed is that taking a powerful persons money does hurt them eventually

At the same time China’s initial reaction noticeably failed to condemn the invasion, with the Chinese foreign ministry calling for all sides to “exercise restraint” – while ultimately castigating the United States for “fueling fire” in the build-up of tensions.

According to a review of a lengthy press briefing in Beijing, the ministry spokesperson refused over and over again to acknowledge an “invasion” of a sovereign country by Russia:

In a Ministry of Foreign Affairs briefing that went on for more than 90 minutes, spokesperson and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Hua Chunying dodged more than 11 questions regarding Russia’s actions in Ukraine. They included repeated inquiries on whether Beijing would consider Russia’s acts an invasion and whether they violated Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Hua added that China would begin importing Russian wheat, a move that could ease the impact of Western sanctions on Russia.

She called the conflict “very complicated” while urging that the legitimate “security concerns of all parties” must be addressed – which is a clear acknowledgement that China takes of utmost seriousness Moscow’s rejection of NATO expansion.

According to the exchange with reporters:

After questions from multiple media on whether China considered Russia’s moves an invasion, Hua asked reporters, “Why are you obsessed with this question?”

“You can ask the US side. They keep fueling fires… You can ask them if they have any plans to put out the fire.”

Meanwhile on Thursday as the world’s attention is fully on Ukraine and Putin’s “shock and awe” war unfolding there, Taiwan’s air force scrambled fighters to warn away nine Chinese PLA aircraft that breached its air defense identification zone.

While Chinese aircraft entering the area off the island’s south is nothing new, and has occurred on a weekly basis for more than the past year, it’s led to speculation that China could take a page out of Putin’s playbook and mount its own rapid overwhelming attack. This after the Communist Party takeover of Hong Kong via its local puppets has already long been a done deal.

Russia has been isolated for quite some time, those sanctions won’t affect them in any way, shape, or Form
Putin doesn’t care about his own people, Sanctions big waste of time at this point

The USSR fell not because of military war but because of a financial one. Read up on your history and don't underestimate what can happen to a country when it bleeds from within. It might not be immediate but sanctions over time can be very effective.

Russia doesn't GAF about sanctions. Sanctions are just an excuse not to do anything. Ukraine is on its own.
