The EU, UK and US have imposed massive sanctions on Russia. The latest round of EU sanctions against Russia aims to make it harder for the Kremlin to access money on financial markets. The German government has so far opposed excluding Russia from the SWIFT system, citing possible consequences for Germany, which uses the system to pay for Russian gas.
