This kind of pork is controlled very carefully in Germany to ensure it’s safe to eat. That’s why people can eat it raw, as long as it is fresh. ( I still don’t dare to try, thought 😂)

He chases ypu with raw pork and you chase him with Vietnamese egg coffee. You two are so funny. ❤😂

A profesor at university in Germany told us about a friend of his which went to a business trip to Japan and as Japanese people do, they invited him to a good Sushi restaurant not knowing that he really disliked raw fish. Then after some time the Japanese business men came to Germany and the guy thought "Now it is payback time" and went out to eat Mettbrötchen with them, knowing that they would dislike it at least as much as he disliked the raw fish.

Here in Belgium we have a similar sandwich, though ours is usually beef and more heavily seasoned. I immigrated as a small child and remember being sooo suspicious of these the first 5 years or so but then I finally tried them and loved it. Still one of my favourites.
All things considered it's not THAT strange, people do eat things like carpaccio and steak tartare.

So fresh, if the veterinarian gets there fast enough, he can still save the pig.

When we lived in Germany, my husband tried Mett and liked it. He told his dad, who is a doctor. Not too long after, we received an email with pages and pages of information on why not to eat raw pork 😂 and then we got a lecture via phone call! They didn’t care that Germany has special rules for Mett 😂

We had a Chinese exchange student, she once cooked Chinese food for us in our study group and we ate "Mettbrötchen" every Wednesday ("Mettwoch") and invited her. We saw the sheer fear and disgust in her eyes and she quickly tasted a very little, turned pale and said "No, thank you!" and tried to smile. That was so brave and we felt bad for it. We didn't want to push her. 🙈

Metbrotchen are DELICIOUS. Have had them ever since I was a child. A Dutch version is with raw beef, also yumm

Never forget that meat, that was so delish! Tried it first when I was 7 and last time when I was 11 (both times were holidays in Hannover). That stayed with me since. We don’t have them here in Australia which is a shame. I miss it so much.
