Nothing like being in a small German town and getting some fresh bread from the bakery ❤️❤️❤️. Makes me want to go back.

In Czech the "not real bread" is called "toustový chléb" which literally means "toast bread". The "real bread" is just "chléb" - "bread" :-)

Ich liebe diesen Kanal! I grew up in a German bakery in Düsseldorf and my father had over 100 types of bread on offer, every day my parents had 40 different types of bread for sale in the store. Bread and beer - no other country in the world can compete with the German variety.

For us Germans, this soft stuff is only edible when toasted. Untoasted, it tastes like wet cardboard. Thus, we call it toast. Calling this bread means insulting our taditionally crafted bread.

To the enraged Americans: The sweeter square bread in a bag is called "toast" in Germany even before toasting it, because it is considered only to be ready for consumtion after toasting it. Of course you CAN eat it cold from the bag, but that would be like eating canned ravioli cold with spoon from the can. The freshly baked German type bread is considered "Brot"= bread and ready immediately for consumption. Of course Toast is a kind of bread, like bread rolls or bagels are a type of bread but they are in their own category in Germany.

Y'all bring back good memories. After my Army tour in Germany, American bread and most American foods were just blah.

When i get confused i google them. 😄
-Bread and toast are not the same thing. Bread is a staple food made from flour, water, and yeast, while toast is bread that has been browned by exposure to radiant heat. Toasting bread changes its texture and flavor, giving it a crispy and slightly charred taste.

Sliced bread is called toast bread in Germany, probably because its only used for toast. As for grabbing the other bread with her hands. I dont see the issue, she is after all going to be eathing it, its not like she has touched 6 others before making a decision.

Americans explaining germans what real bread is... 🤔

In Germany, presliced loaves are only used to make toast and you must remember; Germans are the bakers of Europe. I live in Texas and there is a German bakery 40 miles from my home and I go out of my way to get their Rye or Bauernbrot at least once a week.

My great-grandparents were German & I totally get this from both sides of the ocean. I still think of "real bread" as the kind of loaf that the German girlfriend pulled from the bin, and "toast and school sandwich bread" as the kind of loaf the American girlfriend came back with. If there was real bread in the house (or if mom had made bread) it was a treat to have a sandwich made with it.

in the US it's about money. a cheap bread that lasts a long time. more Americans should seek out their local bakery and support them.

We German speakers use the word Toast for sliced bread that's supposed to be toasted, because we don't toast real bread. So yes that's not quite correct because toast is not a noun in English but it's a word that has been germanized and made a noun.
English speaking people also use some German words the wrong way so it goes both ways.
