Abstract
With the convergence of technologies and information, the digital age is presenting both challenges and opportunities to public and private sector organisations in all major market verticals.

While there is significant scope to introduce technology driven applications and processes that streamline and optimise critical operational activities including fleet management or temporal analysis to assess biological changes over time, these benefits rely on the creation, maintenance, accuracy and access to reliable, authoritative, operational and scientific data. The opportunity is significant however there is a recognised view the sector is data rich, but information poor.

Small scale operations that characterise many stakeholders in the fisheries sector have limited ability to adopt large scale information technology solutions so often hold and supply critical information manually resulting in “hidden data stores” that are not available to inform their commercial partners efficiently, inform representative bodies to enable better representation, inform themselves of key fishing and catch patterns.

Spatial Vision's John Heskins will explore the value of unlocking vital sector data by streamlining processes and workflows across the entire supply chain from the lens of the fisher as a central stakeholder.

John will reflect on industry risks and impediments, and conclude with recommendations to guide sector reform that:
• Improve data accessibility and outcomes across the fishing stakeholder landscape
• Identify and reveal the “hidden data stores”; and
• Increase business efficiency and mitigate future risks
