Lat Pulldowns are the king of vertical pulling exercises but it's one of the most common exercises mess up. The trick to correct lat pulldowns is breaking the movement into two separate phases. First, you need to perform a reverse shrug, and then, you need to pull the bar down with your elbows. It's not necessary to touch your body with the bar and usually, that means you've messed up the motion of the exercise. If you are having trouble building big lats or improving your pull-ups, it's probably because you are messing up this critical exercise.

Thanks for this video!! I think I've been pulling too low -- and someone at the gym came up and told me to only pull down to about my nose, which felt like it hurt in my wrists and elbows -- but this shows me the proper form to focus on! Thanks so much!

Best advice that I haven't seen from other channels is to maintain the elbows in the same line with the wrists and the cable at the end position 0:37 !!

Thanks ! I’ve been pulling too low, causing too much external rotation at the shoulder leading to posterior shoulder impingement.

Got to learn a golden rule here - elbow’s gotta be right below the wrist. That’s how low to go 👍🏻

Just found the channel and I am finding the tips very useful. Short and to the point, very useful videos! By far my new favorite fitness tips channel. I watched the reverse shrug video. My only question is: at the top while letting the muscles stretch does the shoulder blades/scapular elevate? Or do we keep the scapular/shoulders level because I feel a lot of stretch even before the scapular elevates.
