Use your hands as just hooks, and pull your elbow below. Make sure you are not applying extra pressure with your arms to pull down the bar. You will start to feel your back this way.

Regardless everyone, you will feel it in your biceps as performing a lat pull-down targets more than one muscle, although obviously your back is the main focus. Elaborately, instead of squeezing whatever you may be using as your grip to perform the exercise and using your arms to pull it towards your chest, imagine your hands as straps. Straps are what is used in many back exercises, as well as deadlifts that help relieve forearm fatigue and help with grip. When you hold the bar/grip at the top of the lift, imagine your hands are straps/hooks that are simply holding onto the bar, not squeezing. Instead of pulling your hands towards you like many do, instead, pull your elbows down to your sides, all while your hands stay hooking onto the bar. Do not pull your hands to your sides. Pull with your elbows. I know this may sound confusing at first, but expirement. If you still cannot feel it in your back, then I suggest purchasing straps if necessary. However, it is possible without them and should save you some money. This should allow for a much better feeling in your back.

If you don't feel your back you just gotta do more back exercises and you'll feel it. When I started training I couldn't feel anything, I did all kinds of things like 'think of your hands as hooks' 'pull with your elbows' 'thumbless grip' but after I while I started feeling my back and now I can activate and control my lats like my chest

It is a compound movement so feeling a little bit of your arms isn't fully bad, with that said one should still try and use more of the lats
