Unifi AI Turret - 4K, Edge recording and huge IR range

Is this the love child of the G5 Turret ultra and the AI Pro cameras? I test all the features of this new huge camera from Unifi.

So glad they now finally seem to be going with the common turret style shape camera’s. Look so much better in my opinion than something like G5 pro/ bullet.

Having multiple cameras in the same zone really helps IR. If that is not something someone has, adding an IR flood is really helpful. I use them in many areas, you can power with PoE either directly or via a pass through adapter. Another benefit is you can mount the IR flood away from the camera itself and turn off the IR on the camera. This keeps many bugs away from the field of view of the camera.

The AI sections have become very good now that I tend to turn off the motion detection to eliminate most false reporting from bugs and wind.

when you install the camera is there enough space to house the thick tail. some people wont wont to drill large wholes into their houses for a camera. and most people doing un upgrade would already have a data cable in place .

I can see the AI Turrret selling really well in this range as it has what is essentially the vision enhancer built in, with the microphone array and the enhanced IR, and white LED for colour night vision. The new AI turret and Dome both have identical sensors and lens configuration to the AI Pro Bullet, minus the optical zoom feature. Just having that extra white LED, and enhanced microphone array, makes the turret such a good option, considering it is the same price as the AI Dome and AI Pro bullet. Not to mention I like the turret form factor in most situations.
Those connectors actually seal really well. A lot of Reolink and other cameras use similar connectors, but maybe not quite so flexible. I still prefer the way the bullets connect in preference, as that allows smaller hole in the wall, and reduces the point of failure of the flying lead, but I guess it will have to be tolerated for the camera form factor.
I was very impressed with the G5 Ultra series, particularly the Turret one again, and these new AI versions, at 4k instead of 2k, have not failed to deliver in my opinion. Ubiquiti have gone strength to strength with their camera hardware.
Regarding health status- You could think of that as SMART for SD cards. Very few SD Cards support this feature, so majority that you put in will say unknown health status. If you can get them, WD Purple SD cards and Kingston Industrial range are two I know of that support health reporting, but being what they are they are a lot more expensive than your standard SD cards

The feature where the recordings from the SD card is being uploaded to Protect would be ANR(Automatic Network Replenishment)
It’s a feature which should be possible to enable via a software update

To test the SD card backup, make sure you are only disconnecting the data link and not the POE power. Without power, there won’t be any SD card recording

Can you show more about the Edge recording? Does it support 512gb and 1tb? Can you set it to just record events in the SD card instead of 27/7?

I think the detection highlight not allowing you to talk IS a processor issue. If i turn on detection highlight on my PTZ, the response time for it to move after i hit the button triples, from almost immediate to about 3 seconds.

Great review! Were you able to retrieve any AI events in Home Assistant, or leverage any automations? Have two AI Pro on the way and wad really hoping I could have HA run automations of facial recognition/license plate - thanks, as always!

Due to the shortages in accessing the Turret Ultra at wholesale level (wasn't going to spend $40+ extra just to buy from whoever had them), I purchased 5 of the turret ultra's to cover all of the areas I feel we need footage of on our property.

I think the AI accuracy thing still cements that I made a good choice, sure it doesn't have the IR range but of all of the testing so far I can get the software to pick up cars in far corners of one of the camera's in the driveway and I am happy with just being alerted and having vision of said car, so we know who is around.

On a sidenote, I've learned the hard way that it would have been better for me to hire a trencher than assume the ground was quite soft following 60mm of rain and hand dig a trench...4 hard days of work and I still have a little bit to go.

It would be really handy to see a comparison of a persons face at 4 metres away with IR illumination versus 4 metres away with the light on.

I am torn between the AI Pro and AI Turret for my driveway. I like the turret form factor better, but having optical zoom to change the FOV would be nice... Another reason I like Turrets is not having to deal with cobwebs (in my experience). Have you had any issues with the AI Turret since it runs warm which spiders like? Thanks

my camera would be the G5 PTZ but unfortunately it's only 2K and the night vision doesn't seem to be the best, so I'm wondering if I should go for the Ai Turret with 4K? However, I don't think the G5 PTZ is much worse in terms of image quality due to the 2x optical zoom, but the night vision makes me doubt it. You have tested both what do you think about it? thanks

(My 1st one arrives tomorrow) - I would like the IR to be on between 5 to 40 metres, and when the object/person is within 5 metres then I would like the light to switch on. The light would bring out the details of the closer object/person, whereas the IR is useful for tracking at a distance. IR close up is kinda washed out. What do you think?
