Its insane that you can choose how much you want it to be insured for... In Norway every insurance covers an unlimited amount for injuries to people and you pay a fixed amount for the rest (usually 400-600 USD). The only thing you can choose is how far you will be driving that year, if you want your car to be insured if you caused the accident, how much you will pay as you fixed amount and some other small things. If you get hit by another driver your insurance company has to repair your car and then go to the other guys insurance company to get it covered.

i got involved in an accident a few years ago. I was the third vehicle at the front. So I call and make a claim, and I have the accident report with me.

My insurance agent calls me and I tell her everything, and I send the pictures I took of the damage done to my truck. Not 10 minutes later the Insurance company of the OTHER vehicle that caused the accident calls me about the accident, and I IMMEDIATELY tell them that I already filed a claim with my insurance. I call back my agent for my case give her the number they called me from and the only thing I hear is, "I'll take care of this."

...ooof Someone got ripped a new one, and I didnt pay a single dime. Over 5, 000 body damage and only costed me about 2 months of the truck being in the shop.

That’s insane. If you can just file suit and a lawsuit compels them to tell you why don’t they just change the law? It’s not like doctor patient confidentiality where you can sue to find out what was said - you can’t ever know. This is odd.

This is more of an issue in a jury trial. Defense attorneys don’t want a jury’s decision on damages influenced in the case where the defendant might carry a lot of insurance. Your damages are your damages no matter how much insurance there is.

It's also the healthcare system. Hospitals have been known to reduce bills just by asking for itemized bills, by fighting them, etc.

If one has 500k auto insurance vs 50k, what's to stop the medical bills from going from 40k to 400k (and then having to fight them later).

The solution is universal medical insurance for all, where everyone pays into ONE pool, from which hospitals get paid. Like they do in 70 countries but NOT in the US.

In Germany, an insurance benefit of €12 million, or about $13 million, is required to register a car with the DMV. But the standard is 100 million. The most significant traffic accident I could find so far was 30 million € damage. Someone hit a truck and the truck burst into flames. The truck driver died (the financial damage would have been much greater if he had survived seriously injured) and the burning truck came to a halt under a bridge, which was damaged by the fire and then had to be rebuilt. However, as the driver of the car that caused the accident was under the influence of drugs, the insurance did not cover him.

In all states some injury attorneys inflate and direct the care of their clients and then negotiate lien based care to increase their own payouts thus increasing the insurance rate of everyone. You do not have a right to know. And you can protect your client but directing them to only get what is medically necessary.

That's stupid. They could settle the claim without ever going to court. Cheaper and faster for everyone.

As an adjuster, there is just some states where we’re not required to say therefore not allowing lawyers to rack up medical expenses. Then again this is pre-litigation.

In NC you can’t even say the word insurance during court proceedings when jury is present

In Estonia the minimum insurance coverage for cars is 1, 3 million euros, if there are injuries it's 6, 5 million euros. Average payment is about 20-50 euros per month depending on your car and driving experience.

Or you have people that will find out how much insurance you have and inflate their claims to match that insurance. I don't see why people should know how much insurance a person has. Yeah and I went to law school so I know just how slimy some of them can be.
