Tile can look amazing...or like crap. What you'll learn from this video will save you time and make your tiling project look better.

Let's dive in and discuss the tips.

Tip 1: choose large format shower tile

This cuts down on cleaning and makes the tile to grout ration high...meaning fewer grout joints

Tip 2: choose large format floor tile

Same reasons why you want large tile in the shower and one extra tip...get the floor tile that has grip to it to prevent slips and falls

NOTE: I totally get that you might want smaller tiles, and that's cool, but if you want less cleaning then large tiles are the way to go.

Tip 3: Tile up to the ceiling

Why leave a 12" piece of drywall between your tile and ceiling? If you're tall there's a big chance water will splash on this drywall and ruin it over time...just tile to the ceiling :)

We have a total of 10 super amazing tips in the video.

So watch it for all the juicy details

If you want the written tutorial on tiling tips and techniques check that out over on Home Repair Tutor...btw, we have several tutorials that you might like...good reason to visit

Tools that make installing tile much easier:

I agree with the silicone being applied behind the lower tiles and a minimum amount beneath. It's more esthetically pleasing and a more pro finish.

We want to go to the ceiling on the tub area with tile....but our drywall on the ceiling bows up in the middle.

So the straight edge of the tile will make they noticable.... suggestions?

Thank you for the awesome tips!

Great points. I have a simple question. I am about to remodel my master bathroom and get exactly the same tile. I am a first time DIY. I want layout tile not only in the shower area but also in other areas. Do I need to change those walls to some waterproof? Or I could just directly put mortar and adhesive the tile? Thank you very much! I like watching your video!

very helpful video.  I was just curious what you use for the joint between tile and ceiling.  I have a finished ceiling and I'm not sure if silicone or grout should go at the joint.

What do you think of Mapei's Flexcolor CQ? I kind of already committed to two tubs of it for my DIY master bathtub and floor. 12x24x1/8th porcelain tilem using Mapei's LFT mortar. Just curious what you thought of Flexcolor?

Hi, even though this video was posted a year ago, I would love to copy that tile design. Do you have a record of what tile maker and model that you used? I have been to a few tile shops with no luck. Thanks

You are in Pittsburg, what state? California? If yes, can I hire you to tile my shower?

jeff ... good one there but huge mistake for mortar applied with Schluter System product (ditra, kerdi board ...). Never install with modified mortar. Keralastic is actually polymere mixed with non modified mortar (Kerabond). You have to use Kerabond alone only to ensure Schluter warranty support. For oversize format i suggest Kerabond T without any additive especialy for Schluter system products.
