Here are a couple of tips for setting tile

#1 Burn thinset into substrate with flat side of trowel
# 2 Use Directional Troweling - My favorite trowel for 12x24's is a EURO trowel👇👇👇
#3 Remove excess thinset from edge of tile before setting leveling clips - Perfect Level Master T-lock is my favorite 👇👇👇
#4 Be sure to back butter tile before setting
#5 Slide wedges towards the set tiles to maintain an even grout joint

I feel like people who work jobs like this are under-appreciated. Our parents tell us to study hard so we don’t have to do jobs like this, yet these jobs are literally essential for humanity. Without these guys we wouldn’t have buildings, houses, etc.

Although everything you did was right, I almost passed out when you threw the trowel in the bucket like that haha

Good detailed pro tips, down to the specific orientation of the clips and why that makes a difference.... exactly what makes this channel immensely helpful. Keep the lessons learned coming! Can you please comment on why the thinset should be troweled with the grooves parallel to the tile's short width rather than parallel to the long side of the tiles? I heard this was to ensure minimal air gets trapped under large tiles.

A simple slide up and down on the tile will really help ensure full coverage. Since leveling clips have became popular it seems like installers have not been properly collapsing the ridges and embebedding the tile into the thinset. I love leveling clips but they do not take the place of properly bonding the tile.

Srsly ive been watching so many videos and you are thr 1st person that informs viewers to have wedges going towards the previous tile. Appreciate that.

Haven't done tile in a few years but those new self leveling clips look awesome. Home depot had them all on clearance for like $2 a pack and I bought the place out. Needless to say I have about 10 bathrooms worth of leveling spacers for whenever I decide to do another few installs. I just prefer finish Carpentry.

Make sure you have full coverage when back buttering.

A margin trowel really helps with cleaning the thinset from the edge for your spacer and helps to clean trowel up throughout the day.

Thank you for the excellent advice. Does removing the clips cause concern with loose tiles?

Great tip about the wedge going on the direction of the preset tile to get a tighter grip, nice and thanks..

I wish I had time to post videos like this. I work in an environmental field for the government that is well-regulated so I couldn't post many things I would like. Congrats on your channel, this content is helpful and entertaining.

One thing I’d add/change. Trowels are designed meter out a precise amount of mortar. When you come back through you need to see the substrate in the “valleys” of the mortar. This means you have the correct and even amount over the whole project. Similarly when you back butter scrape it completely smooth. Most tiles have ridges on them so you can meter out a precise amount of mortar.

This is a brilliant tip, I spent hours getting them broken pieces out and I chipped some of the tiles and they had to be taken out and redone.

For everyone doing tile.. learn how to do clean work from the very beginning. Once you’re a messy worker it’s almost impossible to learn cleanliness
