Nah man I'm 18 and I've been in the trade for 80years. If the floor ain't level you gotta burn the house down and start over.

This is good but be vary of 2 things
First, less of an issue-you're drilling through your waterproofing, so will need to be patched later, before installing bottom row
Second, a massive issue-you could potentially drill through water piping with a screw, without even thinking about it

Or draw a level line and turn your tile backwards and mark it the top wear you marked it wil be your bottom then your done by time you do all that. Then come back tomorrow and grout.

I use this whether the floor is perfect or not. Allows me to still get my floor tile under the first row without any hold up!

You're putting holes in your waterproofed wall board.

If you already have the floor layed down just do the bottom cuts already. Ledger boards are for when you don’t have the floor

How did you keep it from leaking since you are running screws through what appears to be your waterproofing?

Love your videos, but as an old tiler, I'll tell you nailers are for the young guys who haven't figured out you still have to cut the bottom row, same amount of work except it's very fractionally harder to have zero flexibility to make perfect cuts between two locked-in surfaces without even 1/128" of movement possible. You're just wasting the time it takes to put up the nailer, just draw a line on the wall if you have to.

Awesome dude! This will save a lot of headaches.

Not to criticize or anything but if it’s a shower with liner are you putting a whole threw it

Couple of thoughts. Make sure your boards is straight..obvious but you never know.. Also, maybe use a brad nailer..sometimes using screws leads to shifting of the board as the screw catches the wall board..though likely not substantially 😁 also one assumes that the location you place the board is somewhat critical..something just slightly less than a full tile width to ensure the bottom tile is nearly full size ?

So it serves as a ledger strip like when putting in cabinets, very smart idea.

Unless you're going to repair the holes, you're not supposed to have holes inside the shower.

I don’t know why you used this wood ledger. Your bottom tiles are still going to be cut to match your faulty level job. That, or the grout line on the bottom will taper because it’s not level. Which leads me to ask, why you didn’t shim the bottom tiles and tile the entire wall the same day?

Nice to know. I’ve had some DYI’s around the house and these videos are quite helpful. Thank you

I just draw two lines around my shower walls one at actual tile height from all four corners and another line a inch lower from all four corners and just cut the bottom row to whatever the lowest point is in my pan and thats my tallest tile and the rest will be shorter following my level line

You can use the laser to transfer your point to point marks on first row so it's done

Just cut the bottom tile and shim it. Caulk will cover small imperfections, and you save a day.

What you just did can disrupt the level of the already set tiles if not already cured .
