I wish they would teach this stuff in school because it’s important and also, how the hell are we supposed to know this if no one teaches us!

For those not comfortable enough with tampons: What I do is wear period underwear with a pad on, as well as a one piece with swim shorts over it. Right before I get in the pool, I take the pad off and book it, when I get out I book it and put a new one on. This method has never failed me, hope this helps!

They make swimming pads! They work really well for heavy and harsh periods
It's like a pair of bottom that you can put under your bathing suit and you dont have to worry
And when your done throw it in the washer and it's good as new

Most people don’t need anything while they’re actively in the water—for whatever reason, they different pressure provided by being submerged in water keeps everything up in there. The only concern is when you’ve been in the water for a few hours and come out of the water, you may start leaking pretty quickly. I have PCOS and have always had heavy periods and this has never been a problem for me, but you could wear a black swimsuit just in case and bring a dark colored beach towel 😊

as a teen, i use Ruby Red period swimwear. it works so well! they have inserts you put into it for when it’s heavier. the downfall is that it cant go in a washer or dryer

This is why I love cups. I can go all day without changing it, go swimming, go to the dirty bathrooms without worrying about having to touch downstairs besides basic wiping. It's basically like I'm not on my period at all except for the morning and night dumping of the cup

As a competitive swimmer who gets HEAVY periods my best piece of advice is to never wait more than 30-45 mins, not that you’ll bleed out, it just gets very uncomfortable.

As someone who doesn’t get periods, I still love the fact everyone is discussing this without any shame! It’s just a normal bodily function, so I’m glad there’s a space to discuss ways to deal with it!

THANK YOU for actually giving practical advice on this! I hate how some people go "it’s fine you don’t bleed in the water" bc saying that to girls is really setting them up for an embarrassing experience 😭😭

Clair is sometimes like the female figure I never had in my life. Despite having a mother and older sister, they’ve sorta failed me on the whole period subject, and I’ve had to figure all this out on my own. I really love how comfortable but informative Claire content is💛

They’re kinda pricy but people do sell period swimsuits with pads built in and they’re machine washable. I only have one and I wash it after every time I use it. The brand that I got came in red and black. Hope this helps some people. 😊

If your period is not too heavy then you can buy swimsuit bottoms that have a built in thick layer kinda like a pad. I have one and it works perfectly. ( Just make sure you wash it out after.)

I'm so thankful that I always had light periods growing up & actually didn't need anything while I swam. I couldn't use tampons but my daughter did.

You literally saved my life, I was going swimming with my friends today cause my friend is moving really far away and we wanted to spend some time together before she moves. I got my period a day before but I didn’t want to cancel it cause it was our last chance, I saw this video and I tried it out, it was a little awkward cause I don’t usually use tampons but it worked so well and I’m so happy!! I wish schools taught us this kind of stuff instead of other useless subjects that we won’t ever use in life and probably forget in the future, YOUR A LIFE SAVER THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤❤❤❤❤

Hello!! I'm a swim teacher who is in the water for almost 8 hrs a day. A couple of extra things. I have a heavy flow and I use the regular tampons. They work perfectly for me. I get a break between every class, 1 class=30 mins, and I change every 2 classes. As she said, black suits are your lord and savior. 1 pieces are great for those bloated days as well. When you get out of pool at the end of the day make sure you wipe and clean the area really well. Yeast infections suck. Clean underwear and pads are your best friend after. I personally put on pads after because I'm not completely used to tampons. But whatever works for you. BRING MIDOL OR IBUPROFEN. I can't say that enough. The amount of midol I go through on a shift is crazy. Medicine is the best for those days. Hope I could help tho. :)

Had to learn this all by myself as I grew up and if you have a heavier period like me you might look into adult/discrete diapers so you have less chance of accidentally bleeding after getting out. Thank you for putting this information out there for people to hear ❤
