Love your collection of plants at the back ❤️❤️❤️ All the best with Victober 🦋 I love Bleak House: it’s an excellent book ❤️ and Agnes Grey is one of my favorites as well.

I enjoyed Cranford a great deal and The Warden as well. No comment on the Hardy. Lovely books

I think most of us who read classic get into them as adults - if anything, school does more to put people off classics than make us enjoy them. Your Victober TBR sounds fun, I'm also reading Agnes Grey next month. On a completely unrelated note, your plants look so nice and healthy - that calathea is 😻😻😻 I have three Austen novels in the Folio society edition (from the 70s) and they are so pretty! Got them in a charity shop, and when I read the Emma one, I found a gigantic spider dried and preserved between two of the pages 😲

Yay, North and South! I've picked it for my Victober read so I'm so happy to hear more good things about it.

Love the beautiful editions of Victorian classics you have! I love that you and Leo will be trekking through Bleakhouse together. I hope it’s wonderful. I hope we both enjoy our Dickens tomes. 🤓

How beautiful to have your Grandmother's copy of Little Women!! That's a treasure!

Bleakhouse is on my Victober TBR as well! I’m going to try and do the group read as well... hopefully. Being back at work is GREAT but it’s definitely gotten in the way of my reading.

I also love modern classics! I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed Rebecca West. I have one of hers on my shelves that I’ve been meaning to try.

I love North and South just like you do!
It was a set book In my english lessons in boarding school done 30 years ago...
It took me time and effort to get through - it was the first english classic I‘ve ever read (I‘m german)- and it stayed with me.
When you read about the question I thought North and South and I smiled when you mentioned exactly this novel! 😃👍🏻

Yes. North and South . Read it when I first moved North in 1976 and never left !! Enjoy Bleak House . It's really good . The BBC did great adaptions of both books years ago and Anna Maxwell Martin nailed both leads ..

Enjoyable Sarah, thank you. I started The Barchester Chronicles last year with The Warden and continued with Barchester Towers this year, so you are at the start of a very good series. Kind regards.

You have such beautiful and exquisite copies of the classics. For me, I often buy the cheaper copies (think Collins Classics) which, if I were to be honest, feel uninspiring most of the time. Maybe I'll treat myself with some lovely editions LOL. The Folio Society books look gorgeous!

Somehow I only got a notification of this video now - very odd!
Love those Virago Modern Classics and the Folio society editions - they're stunning!
Speaking of used bookstores: I have this vague memory of you speaking about some lovely bookshops you visited in Venice. Do you have any recommendations?

As an English/American literature student I also have to "hang my head in shame" in light of the abundance of classics I haven't read yet. I've had Bleak House and North and South on my TBR for ages. Loved the opening passage of Bleak House we analysed in uni. Can't wait to get to both.
I'm getting a little twitchy seeing all the Victober TBRs and not being able to take part as I'm in the middle of finishing up my degree. I'll live vicariously through BookTube!

I think I want to read some Trollope for Victober as well. I love his stuff!

Hope you and Leo have a very unbleak Bleak House Victober! ❤️

Great 👌! Longhorn just moved back up - for the same reasons. I was lucky enough to have an excellent English teacher for two consecutive years in high school and she got me to appreciate Moby Dick. Of course, I don't know how it would fare today.

I'm with you on finding the inter-war period really interesting as a historical period to read about/from. Happy to hear you liked Longbourn - I suspect I'll like it too since I also like the downstairs-upstairs narratives. Wow your Little Women copy is magical!
