CLIP DESCRIPTION:
In the final play of the final game, Rudy (Sean Astin) is given the chance to compete and sacks the quarterback.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
A young man learns to let nothing stop him from realizing his ambitions in this drama, based on a true story. Ever since he was a little boy, Rudy Ruettiger (Sean Astin) has dreamed of attending Notre Dame University, and playing on the Fighting Irish football team. However, Rudy's dream doesn't seem very practical; Daniel (Ned Beatty), his father, works in a steel mill and can ill afford to send his son to Notre Dame, while Rudy's grades are not especially impressive, and standing a shade over five feet tall and weighing a little over 100 pounds, Rudy is hardly built for the gridiron. However, with the help of Father Cavanaugh (Robert Prosky), a sympathetic priest, Rudy is admitted to nearby Holy Cross, and in his junior year manages to squeak into Notre Dame as a transfer student. Rudy works as an assistant to the football stadium's groundskeeper, Fortune (Charles S. Dutton), to pay his tuition (often sleeping in Fortune's office since he can't afford a room), studies diligently, and appears at tryouts for the football team. Rudy is made a member of the practice team, which means he's little more than a human tackling dummy, but Coach Ara Parseghian (Jason Miller) is impressed with Rudy's devotion and determination, and pledges that he'll allow him to dress for one game before he graduates, so his name can be recorded as an official member of the team. However, the arrival of a new coach and a tough season that allows for few unnecessary players may put a stop to Rudy's dreams within sight of the finish line. Rudy also stars Jon Favreau, Lili Taylor, and Scott Benjaminson.

My Dad played football with Rudy at Notre Dame, this was my favorite movie to watch with him the end always got him. He wore 55 so every time I see his number In the movie I would always say “Look Dad there you are.” Greatest man I ever knew I miss him everyday.

This scene inspired me to go back to university and finish. Graduating in July. Thanks, Rudy.

The only bad part of this movie is they portrayed head coach Dan Devine as the bad guy who was against Rudy playing. In reality he was the one who had Rudy suit up for the game and he was the one who put him in for the last three plays of the game. It's a shame he had to live this down after the movie because he was actually the good guy in all this.

Rudy's team: "WE CAN'T CARRY THIS FOR YOU...BUT WE CAN CARRY YOU!"

Fortune is such a great character. He has regretted his own decision to quit the team his entire life. Fortune sees himself in Rudy and helps him out the best he can. When Rudy actually gets to play, Fortune's lifetime of regrets are put to rest and he now has peace of mind. Fortune literally punches his demons as he walks away. Great story

For anyone that's ever laced em up and been a part of a team under those Friday night lights, you know EXACTLY what this moment would feel like. The culmination of hard work, perseverance, and the refusal to let anyone that's ever doubted you get the chance to say "I told you so", coming together in one defining moment. And the power of this message extends so much further than just the football field as well, we've all had or encountered a Rudy moment at some point in our lives. This scene is a testament to how much control we all truly have over the goals we set for ourselves, and just how powerful the belief in oneself can take you with the right mindset.

All throughout life, there are always going to be people that tell you you "can't" do something, or your not "good" enough, but in the end they're just opinions, and opinions will NEVER have a direct impact of whether you accomplish your goal or not. That's up to you and only you. Also if you don't at least cry a little bit at the end of this scene, you're not a real man.

The size of an average man. But the heart of a lion.

Sean Astin has two scenes in movie history that most consistently make me cry, and give me hope: This scene in Rudy, and his speech as Samwise Gamgee at the end of The Two Towers.

This movie was the greatest inspiration of my life. Furman University was my dream school. I wasn’t the brightest student, and I wasn’t the greatest ball player. Just an average offensive lineman with a big dream. I never ever imagined I would get there, but goddamnit I did. I was accepted, I walked on for the ball team. To be honest, I never did actually dress for a game, and I transferred to a smaller school after my first year, because I just decided I wanted different things out of life at a different school. But I went further than anybody ever thought I could and I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. Thanks Rudy

I was always a scrawny kid growing up, but I was a big football fan (Grew up in rural Alabama). This movie motivated me to play receiver for my high school, and I was able to get varsity playing time as a wide receiver despite weighing only 125lb at the time. Thanks Rudy. You're an inspiration to all of us who were told we couldn't do it.
