CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Rudy (Sean Astin) goes to the Notre Dame football tryouts and shows the coaches what he's got.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
A young man learns to let nothing stop him from realizing his ambitions in this drama, based on a true story. Ever since he was a little boy, Rudy Ruettiger (Sean Astin) has dreamed of attending Notre Dame University, and playing on the Fighting Irish football team. However, Rudy's dream doesn't seem very practical; Daniel (Ned Beatty), his father, works in a steel mill and can ill afford to send his son to Notre Dame, while Rudy's grades are not especially impressive, and standing a shade over five feet tall and weighing a little over 100 pounds, Rudy is hardly built for the gridiron. However, with the help of Father Cavanaugh (Robert Prosky), a sympathetic priest, Rudy is admitted to nearby Holy Cross, and in his junior year manages to squeak into Notre Dame as a transfer student. Rudy works as an assistant to the football stadium's groundskeeper, Fortune (Charles S. Dutton), to pay his tuition (often sleeping in Fortune's office since he can't afford a room), studies diligently, and appears at tryouts for the football team. Rudy is made a member of the practice team, which means he's little more than a human tackling dummy, but Coach Ara Parseghian (Jason Miller) is impressed with Rudy's devotion and determination, and pledges that he'll allow him to dress for one game before he graduates, so his name can be recorded as an official member of the team. However, the arrival of a new coach and a tough season that allows for few unnecessary players may put a stop to Rudy's dreams within sight of the finish line. Rudy also stars Jon Favreau, Lili Taylor, and Scott Benjaminson.

I love this movie! Rudy reminds me of a kid on my basketball team. Not the biggest, fastest or most talented but will do anything to see court time. Dives for loose balls, never cries, complains, listens, boxes out his opponents, always asking questions and most of all he has heart bigger heart then the 9 others. :)

This movie is very near and dear to my heart. My family has always been Notre Dame fans because it is in our blood. My grandfather passed away from a heart attack during one of the games at halftime back in the late 1990s and one of the benches inside the stadium is dedicated to him. I have been watching Notre Dame since I was little when Golden Tate was still playing for them and Charlie Weis was still coach. My uncle and cousins attended Notre Dame and my grandmother recently passed in 2019 and she loved Notre dame just as much as my grandfather and every time they play, I know they are watching from Heaven cheering them on.

His attitude, determination, work ethic, and overall love of notre dame football is what got him in that locker room.

Playing highschool football changed me. Simply learning to be a team and to NEVER give up has pushed my work ethic to the top. All the conditioning through the flaming hot August double sessions, to the ice cold dark late October practices. Really broke me down and built me back up. Thank you to my team and my coaches. Everytime I see this, I get a hard on lol. 💪🏈

Jerry Goldsmith’s music is both epic and inspirational. You can play it to anything and it’ll still have the same impact!!!

Watching this over the years, even in my own football career. Even the smallest of football players can rock with the giants.

The film and legend will always be larger than life and not exactly how it went but so what. Rudy really did these things. These accomplishments. He lived his dream and I admire and respect that.
