Nuzu got taken because the individual who started it didn’t know how to develop and didn’t realize he would have to write code as opposed to someone else. Suyu is being developed.

The emulator always was open source. Even the early access stuff could be used by anyone for free who compiled it themselves or if someone built and released it. The patreon just provided pre-compiled binaries.

To be fair you can still redownload your Nintendo Wii digital downloads
The ability to redownload them did go down for a while but they did say they would bring them back.
Even games that got delisted you could still redownload if you bought them.
