nintendo won and took down Yuzu and Citra, even though Citra is a 3DS emulator and the 3DS eShop has been closed for a year.
oh hello there.

NIntendo is like that kid in preschool who hoarded all the toys even though he wasn't using them and yelled at someone if they touched one.

That letter was 100% a hostage note. I get that Yuzu kinda flew too close to the sun with monetizing different emulator builds through Patreon, but goddamn Nintendo REALLY doesn't want to see their old games come back or be preserved.

Yuzu was more than well enough complete, and anyone whose anyone already hard forked it. Chances are it'll just come back rebranded or through mirrors. This is the way of the open source.

Nintendo still has yet to realize they’re fighting a hydra

nintendo taking down emulators only for more emulators to come out is a perfect demonstration of the streisand effect

Another “to the surprise of nobody” moment by Nintendo

I swear Nintendo will sue anyone even if someone's name is Mario

When I look at the thumbnail, I thought that SMG4's Mario did something stupid again

This is exactly why I hate emulating modern, currently sold consoles.

Because now with this, the whole emulation scene is in danger.

You can just use the old versions of citra. But still, this is just vile.

For context, the reason the 2 emulators got sniped is because the patreon had a paywalled fix to play Tears of the Kingdom before its release on Yuzu. Frankly a very stupid way to lose your emulator, cause that very much crosses a line most companies would dislike, not just nintendos

To add to this, since this isn't mentioned, the reason for this lawsuit isn't the emulation itself, but the fact they PAYWALLED fixes to run TOTK before it released

THEY ONLY TALKED ABOUT YUZU I DIDNT THINK THEY TOOK CITRA TOO!

Nintendos main demographic is younger kids who don't know about emulators, so this doesn't hurt them pretty much at all other than some backlash online that will only last a week.

Citra is the much bigger loss with this one since it was the most compatible 3DS emulator, and the other ones are not as far along. 3DS emulation is essentially screwed at the moment

Nintendo just cut the head of a hydra and 5 emulators based off of yuzu cropped up in their place

I imagine Yuzu will continue on as community driven. A lot of the big fan games that have been made like AM2R which were struck down by Nintendo were decompiled by the community and then picked up where the creator left off. A safeguard for future emulation to deter the whole piracy thing I would guess is some detector that locks games out from being ran on em. Like instead of ToTK being ran on Yuzu before it even launched, the program would just straight up not allow it until x days after the official release. That way there is a firm stance against piracy.

I bet Yuzu could've gotten away with it only if it labeled itself as a software for developers testing their switch games.
