some dialects in Austria are that strong, so you hardly understand them even when you are Austrian. I remember when my boyfriend and I were on a mountain hut in Eastern Tyrol and there I heard the owner and some other guy talking to each other, in a strong accent. And serious: it seemed rather a secret language to me than anything I heard before in this area 😅 That was the moment when I really felt like an foreigner in my own country 🤣 However - I really adore it, when people still use their very dialect. In some regions (mostly around Vienna) there are so many (young) fellas which only communicate in High-German. Sounds awful to me and I cannot see the reason why... But maybe I just too old to agree with this certain development 😅

That's how I felt once when I had dinner at my parents-in-law's, both speak dialect of the Erzgebirge. I understand nothing, even though I grew up in Saxony. 😅
