i needed to complete a drive cycle for my wife's car in order to pass smog here in california. for many people it is difficult to pass a drive cycle because they don't know how to do one, how long they should drive, and how they should drive. in this video i show you how to complete a drive cycle so you can take your car or truck to a smog station and pass.

I wish i could give you a hug.

I failed my inspection 5 times in a row yesterday despite putting 140 miles in that day.

This morning, I used your advice and tricks and I passed first try. I cried. thank you.

I’ve failed my emissions test 7 times, I was about to pay someone $350 to pass it for me until I came across your video and I literally PASSED THE EMISSIONS doing this exact thing MYSELF, in 30 You’re amazing! Graci!!

Currently doing this Right now! Switched out my starter on my car so I had to unplug my battery which resulted in me failing my emissions test. Guy told me to drive about 100 miles. Decided to youtube tips and tricks about getting that Status "Ready" and by far this is the best video ive came across.

Thank you.. this method worked like a charm. I didn't even use a code reader... just got in my older Honda and drove it the same various ways on the freeway over the course of an evening.. and the car passed Smog Check the next day. I had installed a new battery and the computer needed to be reset using your methods.. so yes, it does fix the issue.

Let me say that I have a 2011 Dodge Charger and the last monitor to complete was the O2 sensor. I tried other drive cycles on YouTube and none of them worked. After watching this video and driving for 15 minutes at a minimum of 55mph, this worked like a charm. Thanks💯👌🏾

My man I was pulling out my hair trying to figure out what happened and why I still had the code errors not cleared and pending never thought about completing a drive cycle which "NOBODY EVER MENTIONS". I understand the codes now and why they were flashing on those specific cycles. What I'm trying to say is, man, 🙏 thank you for helping an average diy mechanic with this car and on top of that saving me hundreds of dollars, that I don't have, going to a mechanic for something so simple and overlooked. You got +1 sub from me, and I never hit the notification bell for any channel I sub to but your channel will be the first. Plus, your content is actually good and something I look forward to following 👍🤙

I bought an OBD2 Car Diagnostic Scanner for $10 & a Pro Torque app for my phone for $4.95. I cleared my fault code & emissions monitors then using my app drove & watched sensors clear in real time. Which was awesome because I didn't have to drive it more than 30 miles to cycle through & complete the codes then took it straight in fior smog. PASSED :) Thanks for the info on the Evap, mine stayed incomplete but wasnt needed for smog

*I didn't even get a chance to follow your drive cycle "hack." I had to jump start my wife's Jeep and when I took it to the smog guy, it failed because the monitoring systems were not ready - he told me to drive 100 - 200 miles, so I planned on doing so in the next two days. I found this video and was going to follow the instructions; I plugged in my ODB2 scanner (which already had a big I/M button) and all of my systems except EGR were already ready. While on the drive back to the smog guy, the EGR was ready and I passed smog.*

This helped me set Catalyst Monitor on an 07 Accord. 5 minutes steady (as best as possible) at 35. 5 min steady at 55 on highway. About 5 more min of regular driving and allowed the car to coast to a stop once. No ac. Thank you!!

Why does the government stick owners with this nonsense? Why put complex monitoring circuitry in every car? Why not just check the tailpipe emissions and sniff for evaporated gasoline at the inspection station, and leave drivers alone? I have NO drivability issues with my turbo. NONE. But it will fail the inspection. No one seems to know how to fix it. I'm going to have to junk a car that only has 50K miles, and drives fine. They're worried about pollution. When you junk a car, that means you have to make ANOTHER. And that causes pollution.

Pass!! Great informational video! At about 100 miles my check engine light always lit up (which i thought was the minimum mules required for S.C) I replaced the canister purge valve code p1450. Cheap easy fix and main cause of failed S.C. I got me $20 car diagnostic reader from amazon. And got all my readings in less than 40 miles. Saved about $600 in repairs just to rid of check engine light. Thanks!!

I seriously can't thank you enough! I was going out of my mind trying to complete drive cycles. I drove 680 miles and still couldn't pass. I still have one left the EVAP monitor, but the others will pass now. I could cry! Thank you so much again for posting this.

Update: I passed inspection in Texas! I could not get the EVAP monitor to be ready, but it still passed! Thank you thank you thank you again! Bless you

Posting this end of April 2023. I was frustrated and incredulous, like many of you. Had been going to get smogged for over a month, once a week... sometimes even twice. Kept getting the message, OBDII Not Ready, CAT related... every time!

This WORKED!!!

Drove on the freeway at 55 to 60 MPH for about 20 mins. I actually did it twice, because I did it on the way back too.

No touching the brakes, no AC, no Cruise Control.

Amazing!!!

I’m so glad I found this video. I had changed my O2 sensor and I drove like crazy and it wouldn’t pass. Going through the cycles the way you did it helped me pass. Thanks

Thank you so much for this video. I wish we could have some explanation from the manufacturers as to why they design the codes the way they do. It's absolutely ridiculous and sometimes impossible for some people to be able to create the cause and effect from an amount of mileage, amount of speed per hour, amount of time to trigger what's been programmed. I know I can't make any of the thresholds within the program go away but I would love an explanation as to why and how they came upon this set of numbers for this amount of time. And then it seems to be different per manufacturer!!!
It really is crazy making and borders on collusion in order to bring people into dealerships to have their car looked at.

Thank you!! I had been driving myself crazy trying to get the evap tests to pass for the CA smog test. You mentioned that test could be pending and sure enough it passed. Wish I’d seen your video sooner!

Your method helped trigger a pending EVAP DTC. I subsequently found a small EVAP leak at the Charcoal Canister on a 2001 Ford Expedition. Had I not used your methodology, I would have been spinning my wheels forever. Greatly appreciate your help.
