Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer and mechanical engineer. He was born in 1856 in the Austrian Empire, and in 1884 emigrated to the United States. Tesla is best known for his contributions to the design of the alternating current electricity supply system. The Serbo-Croatian word "tesla" literally means "adze".
