“Not the reason you’d expect”, gives the one thing Pintos are known for 🤦‍♂️

Folks I bought a 75 Ford Pinto and to this day it was the best car I ever owned! It came with a four speed trans and had a 2.3 liter motor and it ran great! I had a big cam installed and a header put on it and it would blister any street car! Eventually I put a high performance 289 in it with a inline shifter and had a Ford 9 inch rear End installed with a 370 gear! Ran low 11s in the quarter mile! It was a great play toy until my ex wife totaled it!

Fun fact, more teslas have burnt to the ground then ford pintos.

True. If they fixed the rear ending vulnerability they drove pretty well. The engine was pretty good. MUCH better than the Vega engine of the same time period.

Back in the 70s a neighbor was called in that owned a pinto to the dealer ship .they installed a heat shield. They owned a 71 pinto. And eventually sold it. It was in great shape..

My very first car ever back in the 90’s. when I was still in High School. I had a 72 Runabout and it had about 600, 000 miles on in when I sold it to a friend. Back then I paid $500. from the original owner.

Everyone that brings this up forgets to mention that it was only for the ‘71-‘73 model years. They were then fixed and made for an additional seven years with no issues, 1980 being the last production year.

I had a dark blue 4-speed pinto and I loved it

The pinto was actually a great little car and they were fixed by ford resulting in only a few fires statistically safer than most cars

I bought a brand new one in 1975..Loved it ❤..My spouse bought a bobcat..Looked just like my pinto but had a 6 cylinder..That thing was fast..Liked them both..Drove the Pinto for 14 years..Only thing I didn't like was it didn't have a good heater in it.

There was a survey done back in the 90s on actual fatality statistics during the 70s and it was found out that the pinto was just average when it came to deaths due to the car catching on fire in a wreck...as a matter of fact the AMC Gremlin was more prone to catching fire than the pinto was. According to Statistics

I've had several Pinto, s. They were pretty good cars.A lot better than some today. They did recall them about the gas tank problem. They put a new bracket of some kind on the tank.Bought 2 of them from Ford the same day once.A 79 model and an 80 model for about 6000.dollars for both.

All the cars back then with the filler in the rear had this issue. The Mustang was the exact same.

My Decked Out 1975 Cragar wheeled 50s on the back small ones in the front, mirrored windows and a 4-cylinder engine never gave me a bit of problems ran on fumes and only cost $3, 000 bucks off the lot

The disposition of the fuel tank was the same on Pintos, Mustangs and Mavericks… why was just a problem on Pintos? Because it wasn’t a cult car???

That's the reason that anyone who has ever heard of the Pinto would expect...
